The Vikings have been disciplined by the league office for violating the salary cap.

Minnesota forfeits its seventh-round draft pick in the 2021 NFL draft, according to the Star-Tribune. The pick the Vikings lost is No. 242 overall.

The violation stems from a practice squad player’s contract in 2019. There’s no word on who the player was or why an infraction committed during the 2019 season is only coming to light now.

Three Vikings executives were fined $10,000 each, in addition to the penalty against the team.

Usually PS contracts aren't much, and did they purposely get around the rules, or an error?

Also, I honestly don't know, do PS contracts count against the Cap? I guess they do, or there wouldn't of been a problem, but I thought it was just the 53 man roster that counted against the cap.

But yes, if they broke the cap of the 53 man roster, it should be higher. For PS? I feel like I need more details.

Though, I'm always good with punishing the Vikings lol, make it a 1st rounder 😜

Because that's also true for coaches, support staff, and really every single person that does NOT play on the field during game day.


They've updated their CBA but one of the older CBAs had a PS minimum wage, but there was no PS maximum wage and teams could pay PS players whatever, and some teams do pay PS minimum 53 man roster wages when they really like them or another team is trying to sign them away.

But as long as they're NOT allowed on the field on game days, what's wrong with paying as much as they want?

And the team could “cheat”, hiding the player that they are paying a lot to on the PS, intending all the while to bring him up to the team. Pay him a cool million for a week on the PS, then calling him up to the team on week 2 and paying him the league minimum.
Thus getting around the cap.
