Signing Crabtree would be a cap nightmare.

Remember Jennings is not signed yet and those two agents would have a field day playing off each other because they both play the same position.

I personally think it would screw up Jennings and he would not re-sign with the Packers.

Crabtree will be special. Greg already is.

you hit the nail on the head but for the opposite reason RP. If Crabtree is there you can't be that stupid and pass on him. The point you made on Jennings makes this obvious. Jennings is not signed to the extension so you never know he might not be staying with the Packers so you jump right away just to be safe (if drafting the best player in the draft is safe). As far as the cap have you not been paying attention? We have tons of money Ted Thompson don't spend so its not like we would be hurting for cap space.

If we get Crabtree i'll kiss TT's ass.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Do we get to pick the place and time....

I say it should be at half time, at center field.... And... I say we wait a few years and have you kiss Ted's ass just before the ceremony when the Packers retire Brett's Jersey.

Serious....

You make a good point Hazer.... Jennings is not signed and it would be a shame to pass on him if Greg has other plans (Which I Doubt though.)

I would like to see Crabtree still there because it would give us more options. There would certainly be teams looking to trade up with us to get him, or, we can take him.

It looks like there will be some serious talent on the board when we come up so we should end up with a great player there or move back a few spots and end up with 5 picks in the first three rounds.

Either way I think we come out of this draft in a strong position.

So for me, the logical conclusion is either take Crabtree there or sell the pick to the highest / most value bidder on the phone lines.

Agreed. I'd take him and see what I could get for him. Or keep him and deal Jordy or Jones.

Seems like most of you guys like crabtree - I'm a bit surprised. And even over raji.

I do agree that getting smith (not andre) or monroe would be a gift - and I dont forsee it happening at all.

IMO the most likely people at 9 will be raji, brown, perhaps orakpo (although it seems like his stock is rising compared to brown), crabtree, jenkins, andre smith, perhaps sanchez ...

I personally dont want us to go for crabtree - although it depends whom is left. If raji and orakpo are off the board then ya I wouldnt mind - I just know that we need to make sure jennings gets paid.

How about we just keep them all and have a nightmare for the opposing Defensive Coordinators. When you have talent at the quarterback position, the best thing to do is keep talent around him, and try and keep his jersey clean in the process.

So with word leaking that many of the top 10 teams want to slide out of it.. that make the drama even more interesting if Crabtree is there..

Jags Trying Hard To Trade Out Of The Top Ten
Posted by Mike Florio on April 13, 2009, 4:42 p.m.

As the 2009 draft approaches, several teams in the top ten actively are trying to trade out of it.

Were hearing that this group includes the Lions, Chiefs, and Browns.

It also includes the Jaguars, whom were told are desperately trying to get out of the eighth overall spot in the draft.

But the Jags currently can find no takers.

Nor can any of the other teams in the top ten.

As one league source explained it, there are three issues making the top-ten teams want to get out, and keeping other teams from wanting to get in.

First, the money paid at the top of the draft has gotten out of hand. Even hard-core agent types who previously have argued with us about this issue are now admitting that the values of the contracts at the top of the process are too high.

Second, theres no bell cow in the draft no must-have player in the view of one or more teams.

Third, theres no real separation between the top players at each position. For example, Michael Crabtree isnt $20 million better than Hakeem Nicks. But if Crabtree goes within the first seven picks of the round and Nicks goes in the last ten, the dollar value of their respective contracts will entail a gap potentially that large, if not larger.

Ditto for the tackles and the quarterbacks.

So why take a guy at No. 2 when a comparable player can be gotten for much less money at No. 20?

In the end, this years experience could provide just enough ammunition to get a meaningful rookie wage scale implemented as part of the next CBA.

I am going to take a contrarian view and say that I think drafting Crabtree would be a powerful incentive for Jennings to sign an extension. Yes, he is currently The Man in Green Bay, and with Crabtree on the roster, Jennings would have to share catches, but think about the potential of that tandem! Defenses couldn't possibly game plan against both of them at once, particularly with Driver or Nelson in the slot. I have to think that Jennings' statistics would actually improve, if not in number of catches, then certainly in yards. And with opposing defenses having to cover the deep routes, they wouldn't be able to stuff the box, which would open up lanes for our running game.

Even with our defensive implosions, the Packers were in all but two games last season. This team doesn't need much to push it over the top. Why wouldn't Jennings want to stay around for that?

beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
