With Chicago's signing of Cutler I would love to see Ted sign someone to kind of offset the hype and let everyone know the Packers are serious about contending within the division.

The more I think about it the Bears with Cutler is scary. They have got a guy to build a team around and with Forte building on his successful rookie season, the emergence of Olson, and the threat of Hester they have an Offense like they haven't had in a while. Cutler is so dangerous outside the pocket. Staying with Hester for an extended period of time is rough. There 2 safety valves are the best recievers on the team.

I think it's time to make a move. Let's not just try to improve from within while a team that was 3 games better than us last year just made a blockbuster move. The confidence is now in Chicago whether it is warranted or not. There are several FA's out there that could help the Packers. Pull off a trade if need be, but lets get some buzz going about GB.

It could be just be me but I don't think buzz is needed. If fact I kinda like it that isn't much easier to sneak up on teams.

Maybe it's because I've lived around a lot of Redskins fans for most of my life and every single year there seems to be hype buzz and hype about all the things they do in FA and they usually fail and fail big time.

Yeah yeah yeah the Bears got Cutler.... but what else to they got? They lost both their starting OTs.... also their RB lead the team in catches last year..... what good offense has had the RB with more catches?

Hester is quick and speedy.... still doesn't make him good enough to start for most teams in the NFL at WR and what other WR to they got? People say Hester a big time treat to score...... guess how many TDs he has..... the same number as S Nick Collins..... yes they have the same amount of TDs on the season with 3.

Basically the only weapons Cutler has are the RB and the TE. Now the TE is very good and he's gonna be hard to stop but I don't seem how Cutler makes as big an impact when he's losing the Denver running game, Brandon Marshal and the rest of those WRs (which Denver may have 3 WR better than Hester) and Denver's very very good OL and replaceing that with the Bears offense....... and only one draft pick in the top 3 and a half rounds.

I think Ted Thompson should add another vet on the DL but the Packers don't need a big move of any kind...... just maybe a good vet DL guy....... also if they do make a big move I want TE Tony Gonzalez..... the TEs last year were no where to be seen and I think a great TE could take the offense to a whole other level could a team cover Gonzalez, Jennings and Driver? Maybe even add in Jones or Nelson...... that would be extremely hard to cover.... and if Spitz beat out Wells for C and everyone healthy I see the inside of the OL taking a big step with Colledge, Spitz and Sitton because taking Wells out makes it a lot better at run blocking......

The Bears have ruined Hester and that sucks. He was awesome to watch return kicks/punts against teams not named Green Bay Packers. He is not a WR and the more they try to use him that way the less effective he's going to be as a returner. They need to have him do one or the other. As for Hester being a WR, if you bump him hard at the line and don't let him get past you, he's nothing. If it wasn't that easy he'd have scored Randy Moss like TD's numbers last year. Yeah yeah, Orton couldn't throw the field and Cutler can, it won't make much difference if he can't get off the line again.

I do agree the Bears look more relevant now than they did a week ago. However, you don't make a move simply because someone else did. You make a move to make your team better. You compete against yourself to make yourself better.

And signing Kevin Carter and/or Vonnie Holiday makes us better. 🙂

With all the attention of last off-season... I am kind of enjoying a quiet Green Bay off-season this time around. Stealth shall win the war 🙂

I know I'm going off-topic here, but in regards to beast's assertion that our TE's were non-existent last year, I don't think that has much to do with the over-all skills and talent of our TE's but rather is due to the fact that they had to stay in and block almost all of the time. they were virtually invisible because they were blocking, not running routes. it's gotta be hard to catch a lot of passes when you're asked to block.

I don't want Gonzalez. I'm interested in seeing improvement along our O-line and the development of Jermichael Finley. He's gonna be a stud if he ever grows up and realizes that if he wants to be a stud, he's going to have to work for it.

I don't disagree with what you said but the TEs weren't much of factor even when they did go out for passes. Also Gonzalez is a better blocker than any of the Packers TEs by FAR.

Also who better to teach Finley than Gonzalez? Yeah Finley has all the physical talent if he gets his mind in gear and used to the NFL, but who better teach him then the best TE in NFL history? Finley isn't going to respect anybody more than Gonzalez and Gonzalez is a great guy on and off the field.

Making a move just to get noticed is the wrong way to approach things. I do think that GB needs to go out and get someone, but that appears to be a long shot.

I would go out and sign Vonnie Holiday and see what KC wants for Tony G. That's me though.

As far as the Bears goes. They have a lot of holes. Their receivers are awful. Devin Hester is a nice deep threat, but that's it. He's not going to catch 10 touchdowns on fly routes this season. The offensive line is starting a tackle who has injury problems and a tackle who is aging with injury problems. The pass rush is a concern. None of their pass rushers showed up last year. Anthony Adams played well with Tommie Harris last year, but they still need depth at DT. Secondary is poor actually. Nathan Vasher and Charles Tillman are actually on thin ice due to injuries and lack of production. Daniel Manning is a good player, but probably a safety. Mike Brown isn't the player he was.

My point is everyone is focusing in on the Bears, but top to bottom Green Bay and Minnesota are still better teams. Cutler elevates them and Lovie Smith is a great coach. Talent wise though, Chicago isn't this scary Super Bowl contender that everyone is trying to make them out to be. They're still pretty much a team with a franchise QB and has a lot of holes to fill. Much like the Packers actually.

I strongly disagree. The Bears were 3 games better than us last year without Cutler. Saying the Pack is better is kind of stretching it here. All those holes you talk about were there last year and they were 9-7. Add Cutler to the team and they have to be the favorites in the NFC North.

I'm really looking for some logic behind your statement. The Packers have done nothing to improve, other than a new Def. Coordinator. If the Packers are going to improve so much from within I would assume it's safe to say so will the Bears. Now toss in Cutler to the equasion as well.

The point on making a move now wasn't to make one that wouldn't help the team just for the sake of making one, but rather speed up the process of signing someone assuming Ted was going to do so.

There are players out there that will improve this team. Ted's needs to quit fiddling around and make someone a priority sign. Or we can just sit still and watch the other teams pass us even further by.

Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
