Well this is a unique(read: dumb) twist on the ol "Ted needs to do more" take. Props to dd80forever for thinking outside the box.

Making a move to counter hype or getting in the news to "let everyone know the Packers are serious about contending within the division" has to be the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

I live in Chicago and know the Bears as well as I know Green Bay and this move isn't that big of a deal right now. In 2 years when they fix their aging defense, get some real WRs(Rashied davis? Really?), and rebuild their offensive line(you think OURS was bad?).

The best part is right when the Bears team could be very very good(2 years from now), Cutler might not even be on the team. One, he wants a contract. Two, he is likely to be a crybaby whiner before the team gets good(hell, before their bye week).

If Cutler thought things were bad in Denver and the media was a pain in the ass, wait till Hester fails on more routes, Rashied Davis can't get it done(shocker) and the media blames the new gift from heaven Cutler for not getting it done.

QB's have been scapegoats in Chicago for years even when they weren't the main culprits. The media and fans will give Cutler a break early on but when he starts passing the buck, they'll turn on him and things will get ugly.

But yeah, let's make some moves so people stop talking about Cutler and the Bears.

OR...

We can watch on and laugh.

I'll do that one.

My point is everyone is focusing in on the Bears, but top to bottom Green Bay and Minnesota are still better teams.

I strongly disagree. The Bears were 3 games better than us last year without Cutler. Saying the Pack is better is kind of stretching it here. All those holes you talk about were there last year and they were 9-7. Add Cutler to the team and they have to be the favorites in the NFC North.

I'm really looking for some logic behind your statement. The Packers have done nothing to improve, other than a new Def. Coordinator. If the Packers are going to improve so much from within I would assume it's safe to say so will the Bears. Now toss in Cutler to the equasion as well.

First off every year is different. Like in 07 all the luck seem to be with the Packers winning a lot of close games. In 08 they were 0-7 in game that were within 4 points. It isn't clearly cut like your saying..... the better teams don't always have better records, luck also is a big factor......

The Bear, Vikings, and Packers were all about equally last year..... yes the Vikings and Bears might of won more games but that doesn't mean their better. The Vikings almost lost two games to the Lions and honestly they should of losted one if not for two horrible pass interference against the Lions and a good long FG by Ryan Longwell.

And the Bears won and lost some games they shouldn't have. Also the Packers lost a lot of games they should of won.

Plus the Bears aren't the same team. They lost both their starting OTs and a starting S. They also had to play 8 guys in the box or teams where running all over them and so they were weak in the passing game. Also they only have one pick in the first three and a half rounds.

They're a lot closer than the records say. In fact isn't there something like if the Packers could change just 3 plays they would of been into the playoffs.

Thank you for your assessment of the situation. However, you also thought the Packers were a 100% lock to make the playoffs last year so I can't say I put much stock in it.

I'm done with you, however I don't appreciate you calling posts "dumb" and I will let it go at that.

Secondly, the amount of impact that Cutler has on the Bears may be downplayed by many but there is no denying that his signing has improved a 9-7 football team.

I'm not saying they are lock for a SB or even the NFC North but they sure are sitting alot better than they were at the end of last season. Like it or not this team has taken very minor steps thus far this offseason in improving the team. Tell me in what position we have significantly upgraded from last years roster.

Easy. Dom Capers.

Bob Sanders not on the sideline should help us win 2 more games easy. A healthy team should help for about 2 more(thats 10 wins). Growing from within(you know, younger players getting experience from last year) should get us one more I'd say.

Addition by subtraction.

And yeah we got some offensive line and seconday depth in free agency so far.

Making a move just to get noticed is the wrong way to approach things. I do think that GB needs to go out and get someone, but that appears to be a long shot.

I would go out and sign Vonnie Holiday and see what KC wants for Tony G. That's me though.

As far as the Bears goes. They have a lot of holes. Their receivers are awful. Devin Hester is a nice deep threat, but that's it. He's not going to catch 10 touchdowns on fly routes this season. The offensive line is starting a tackle who has injury problems and a tackle who is aging with injury problems. The pass rush is a concern. None of their pass rushers showed up last year. Anthony Adams played well with Tommie Harris last year, but they still need depth at DT. Secondary is poor actually. Nathan Vasher and Charles Tillman are actually on thin ice due to injuries and lack of production. Daniel Manning is a good player, but probably a safety. Mike Brown isn't the player he was.

My point is everyone is focusing in on the Bears, but top to bottom Green Bay and Minnesota are still better teams. Cutler elevates them and Lovie Smith is a great coach. Talent wise though, Chicago isn't this scary Super Bowl contender that everyone is trying to make them out to be. They're still pretty much a team with a franchise QB and has a lot of holes to fill. Much like the Packers actually.

That's always something that seems to apply to NFL teams aswell. Just look at the Cowboys and the Dolphins this year.

I'd like to say something to back my statement up, like I usually do, but it's to late right now.

Well I have to disagree.

First off the Bears and the rest of the NFL are 0-0 and not 9-7 right now. Again they don't have the whole team they they did last year they have lost a couple of starters.

Second Cutler has improved the QB position but has has cost them two first round picks and a third but they got a 5th with him. Over all it could be a bad trade for the Bears because they got a lot of aging guys and lots of holes and only one draft pick in the first three and a half rounds.

Third the Packers have significantly upgraded the Defense coaching and system which could be a HUGE significant upgrade at a much needed positions. You know somebody that knows how to use the players smartly..... a good coach replacing a bad one can be better than any player. Prove just look at Favre.... a bust with the Falcons coaches, only to become a Hall Of Famer with the Packers coaches.
