The question isn’t whether or not he’s a verygood player, the question is what else can you get and what price? It is far more likely that Collins would be a more cost-effective option and healthy option.

Also Collins ain't coming for cheap (cheaper maybe, but not cheap) he's looking for that big money too otherwise the Giants probably would have resigned him (assuming they use a SS in their new system, which I don't follow).

In Pettine's preferred high risk see coverage system, it would be really nice to have a talented FS (not nessary saying Thomas, as they're could be others including in the draft)

On twitter yesterday haha Clinton Dix told Landon Collins "you will love that green and gold brudda"

He probably knows GB isn't about to give him that big deal, so he might want Collins to go there, so his market is still hot.... where if Collins goes to one of his bigger options, they might be done with the Safety market and cool his options down.

Though I think they both went to Bama, so maybe it's friendly or both... and good PR.

Perhaps I am too old school, but if you play safety, you should be play both... and in a pinch, you should be able to cover some corner.

Obviously, players have strengths and weaknesses, but when does pigeonholing people into positions have so much nuance.

Further, if we are so damn predictable as to who the cover safety vs. run support safety are going to be, we’re going to be really easy to read for opposing quarterbacks.

Also in the old school era you come from the coverage guys where allowed to be more physical in coverage which would allow the SS to get away with a lot more and there was a lot more physical running and less athletic targets with TEs and the spread.

If Earl Thomas can physically hold up, he can play anywhere. Landon Collins struggled at FS and then switch to SS and became a star almost instantly.

I don't see a date or where this is posted to look it up but some guy is saying he took a pic of it (if it's still up), but this could be them simply messing with each other as former teammates.

Collins saying that was me in a Packers uniform and Haha saying, oh yeah you would love it there (being serious or sarcastic).

Here is the link to the website that had it

Perhaps, but one guy who interchanges assignments and positions across the spectrum defensively is Belichick. The unpredictability of many of his schemes is key to his success. It is predicated upon players ability to play in, and execute well, different roles and assignments.
Sometimes the old ways are better.
Injuries happen, and constructing a roster necessitates flexibility.
