I have heard that GB's new HC would be bringing a fresh offensive philosophy to the Packers. Yet I could not get a clear vision of this new system until now. I found this ESPN article that looked into the McVey/Shanahan offensive system that Coach LaFleur will be installing. I would not even consider placing this or any other article before this forum unless I felt that it was important.

http://www.espn.com/blog/san-francisco-49ers/post/_/id/32694/inside-the-dynamic-plays-and-schemes-built-by-shanahan-and-mcvay

I invite all to post your comments, opinions, thoughts, etc. Thank You .

It's very nice to see the plan designs on paper, though those look like a lot of two routes, where I'm pretty sure they'll have some with more routes too.

But seems like they all have 2WRs, 1TE, 1RB and a flexible on the last position depending on the roster.

Seeing the same offensive set each time places a special advantage with the offense.
EX: The Bears have shown a tendency to drop into a certain pass coverage when a team has a 2nd and 6 to 8 yards to go when the ball is located between the 40 yard lines. Knowing this the offense can target the weakness in the expected defense without tipping off the play.

You will see the Rams run this system on Sunday against the Saints. The loss of slot receiver Cooper Kupp, while a bad thing, will be filled by another. It should also be remembered that the Rams Defense, being completely separate from the offense, must rely on a system of it's own. Therefor while both the Rams/Saints will field very good offenses, it will be the stronger play of Drew Brees that will edge the Saints past the Rams (IMO).

The point however is that GB's new offensive system will look very much like the Rams. The more observant among us will pay close attention with an eye as to how GB's players will look when this system is put in place there. Adjustments will naturally need to be made to take advantage of player skills and strengths.

You know that or you were hypocritical complaining to me both ways...

While I agree that knowing who the FAs are is important, if you are unaware of the system that is looking to find FAs that will fit it is another. For GB I'm mainly referring to the new offensive system that HC LaFleur will be installing. It will place more emphasis in some areas and less in others. That said, the player personal will help to determine GB's new look as it is not based upon a rigid set of well known plays that are very predictable. The McVey/Shanahan derived system basically operates from the same formation sets, but is highly unpredictable as most of the plays start out looking the same until the play begins. Defenses can't read any tendencies from the offense that tip them off to what is coming their way.

I posted another thread that better explains LaFleur's offensive system, but only he and his offensive staff really know how/and with who they will remake GB's offense. The GB defense is a completely separate issue moving forward and FAs most likely will play an important role as Coach Pettine enters his second season with the team. I see need with an Edge Rusher, Safety, and Linebacker. Those weaknesses must also be high on the GM's list as well.

Whoa whoa beast. If you call Smokey a hypocrite he will leave the chat room as soon as you arrive. I don't know if you consider that a good thing or a bad thing but I figure you should be warned. I wish I would have learned that trick sooner.

Me thinks there's a lot of personal views attacking going on around here lately.

Whatever happened to give you're opinion, agree or disagree with othet posters then moving on?
As far as Lefluers philosophy, I hope he comes out of training camp having everyone guessing what the offense and defense philosophoes are.

This is the time of misinformation!

Something else I hope this regime is as good or better than the last!

I just found it silly that I basically tried to say what he said.... and he tried to correct me.

These are Smokey's words, but it's the same as I was trying to say, Packers personal will help to determine the flexible position, if it's 3 WRs, 2 TEs or whatever they choose.

Boys, let's be nice.

I like the fact that we are trying to scheme guys open as receivers running fast, quick breaking routes.

I also hope that we change things up and not allow things to get stale.

It is true that I did not understand about HC LaFleur's offensive philosophy, but then I found the ESPN article that explained it to me. Rather than keep it to myself, I decided that it was important enough to open this thread to share it. Knowledge afterall is the foundation of understanding. So how can one say just what players GB's offense should pursue without knowing about how it will operate.

Ex: LaFleur's offensive sys. will depend upon a TE/TEs that can block well. Jimmy Graham does not block well and may be traded to open up space for a TE/TEs that do block well (and catch too). My newly acquired understanding of GB's new offensive sys. has allowed me to feel confident about this.

Some forum members should learn the difference between debating an issue and a personal attack. Stating a point of view based on supporting evidence is the whole idea behind making a case for one's beliefs. Vulgar language, uncontrolled adolescent behavior, and trying to bully others is not why I enjoy this forum, so when it is displayed, I choose to not support it. Not displaying the post of known troublemakers is a first step to not allowing them to bother you with their juvenile remarks. Exiting a Chat room when they enter does not allow for the escalation of petty schoolyard postering. Others in the past have not learned how to act within a forums rules and some are not around anymore.

Again, I strongly recommend reading this article. 😎

beast (4h) : Sounds like no serious injuries from the Saints game and Jacobs and Watson should play in the Vikings game
packerfanoutwest (9h) : both games Watson missed, Packers won
Martha Careful (11h) : I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas!
Mucky Tundra (21h) : Oh I know about Jacobs, I just couldn't pass up an opportunity to mimic Zero lol
buckeyepackfan (21h) : Jacobs was just sat down, Watson re-injured that knee that kept him out 1 game earlier
buckeyepackfan (21h) : I needed .14 that's. .14 points for the whole 4th quarter to win and go to the SB. Lol
Mucky Tundra (21h) : Jacobs gonna be OK???
Zero2Cool (21h) : Watson gonna be OK???
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : Inactives tonight for the Pack: Alexander- knee Bullard - ankle Williams - quad Walker -ankle Monk Heath
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : No Jaire, but hopefully the front 7 destroys the line of scrimmage & forces Rattler into a few passes to McKinney.
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : minny could be #1 seed and the Lions #5 seed
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : We'd have same Division and Conference records. Strength of schedule we edge them
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I just checked. What tie breaker?
bboystyle (23-Dec) : yes its possible but unlikely. If we do get the 5th, we face the NFCS winner
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Ahh, ok.
bboystyle (23-Dec) : yes due to tie breaker
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I mean, unlikely, yes, but mathematically, 5th is possible by what I'm reading.
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : If Vikings lose out, Packers win out, Packers get 5th, right?
bboystyle (23-Dec) : Minny isnt going to lose out so 5th seed is out of the equation. We are playing for the 6th or 7th seed which makes no difference
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : beast, the ad revenue goes to the broadcast company but they gotta pay to air the game on their channel/network
beast (23-Dec) : If we win tonight the game is still relative in terms of 5th, 6th or 7th seed... win and it's 5th or 6th, lose and it's 6th or 7th
beast (23-Dec) : Mucky, I thought the ad revenue went to the broadcasting companies or the NFL, at least not directly
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I think the revenue share is moot, isn't it? That's the CBA an Salary Cap handling that.
bboystyle (23-Dec) : i mean game becomes irrelevant if we win tonight. Just a game where we are trying to play spoilers to Vikings chance at the #1 seed
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : beast, I would guess ad revenue from more eyes watching tv
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I would think it would hurt the home team because people would have to cancel last minute maybe? i dunno
beast (23-Dec) : I agree that it's BS for fans planning on going to the game. But how does it bring in more money? I'm guessing indirectly?
packerfanoutwest (23-Dec) : bs on flexing the game....they do it for the $$league$$, not the hometown fans
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I see what you did there Mucky
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : dammit. 3:25pm
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Packers Vikings flexed to 3:35pm
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : Upon receiving the news about Luke Musgrave, I immediately fell to the ground
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : Yeah baby!
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : LUKE MUSGRAVE PLAYING TONIGHT~!~~~~WOWHOAAOHAOAA yah
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I wanna kill new QB's ... blitz the crap out of them.
beast (23-Dec) : Barry seemed to get too conservative against new QBs, Hafley doesn't have that issue
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : However, we seem to struggle vs new QB's
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Should be moot point, cuz Packers should win tonight.
packerfanoutwest (23-Dec) : ok I stand corrected
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Ok, yes, you are right. I see that now how they get 7th
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : 5th - Packers win out, Vikings lose out. Maybe?
beast (23-Dec) : Saying no to the 6th lock.
beast (23-Dec) : No, with the Commanders beating the Eagles, Packers could have a good chance of 6th or 7th unless the win out
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I think if Packers win, they are locked 6th with chance for 5th.
beast (23-Dec) : But it doesn't matter, as the Packers win surely win one of their remaining games
beast (23-Dec) : This is not complex, just someone doesn't want to believe reality
beast (23-Dec) : We already have told you... if Packers lose all their games (they won't, but if they did), and Buccaneers and Falcons win all theirs
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I posted it in that Packers and 1 seed thread
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I literally just said it.
packerfanoutwest (23-Dec) : show us a scenario where Pack don't get in? bet you can't
