Hayward & Hyde are good enough examples by themselves. Look at how weak our secondary has been since then, until now.

I was one of the few that wanted to resign Hayward, and I said only if it was under $6.5 million per year (to my surprise is was). But Hayward has only looked great in zone systems, which the Packers never ran especially when they had a healthy Shields which excelled in man coverage... the caponey was tight and it really was sorta one or the other and to the delight of Packers fans everywhere (at the time), they went with Shields.
Hyde is the one people more the mistake as they decided they couldn't pay another Safety... but looking back they maybe should have paid him and.let others go... that being said, most Safeties have been looking good in Pettine's system.
