McCarthy's offense was outdated and he proved too stubborn to change it... Just like his refusal to use Aaron Jones for multiple games. His offense was designed to hit receivers outside the numbers on the field while the rest of the league was using inside routes... inside routes that are easier to scheme those receivers open opposed to depending on receivers to get open on their own running outside routes.

On the one hand, I applaud Philbin's determination to bring a new sense of urgency to the offense. On the other hand, I can't help but note that he has been the offensive coordinator all season and wonder why he hasn't found a way to implement this look on a constitent basis until now. Somehow I doubt that Mike McCarthy was insisting that Aaron Rodgers wait until time expired to get the play off. Though the commentators yesterday did seem to think Philbin was getting the play in faster than McCarthy was wont to do.

Or was it that Rodgers was simply futzing less with the play prior to the snap?

They few times I paid attention they broke the huddle at 20 something seconds. When I used to get irritated and pay attention to it before they were always breaking at around 15.

1. I recall the days when the quarterback actually called most of the plays himself without incessant intrusion from the bench.
2. Why can't they use card system and just speak the number (or two) over the mic....much quicker and less subject to error.
3. They could change the cards depending on situation and possession and personnel
4. Breaking the huddle quickly is key as it enables many things
5. Including putting a receiver in motion...the best why to help determine what defensive coverage scheme is being deployed. (It irritated the hell out me that Mike McCarthy rarely did this)

To add to KRK’s point #5, one thing I’ve noticed with Rodgers is that his hard count helps a lot when it comes to dictating what the defense is doing. I.E. who is blitzing
