I don't know about you guys, but I remember quite a few people thinking that Samkon Gado was the next great thing. He had a pretty solid second half to his season too, until he got hurt.

Now where is he?

I just hope we aren't thinking Grant is the real deal like some of us did with Gado and get disappointed.

Gado was different...He was a feel good story and during his 1st half of a season did pretty well...As the NEXT preseason started, he did not separate himself from any of the other backs on the roster...That is when the team probably thought he was just a flash in the pan...

Which he was..

He had all the makings of a great nfl story but it just never came to be...

While I have heard Grant and Gado mentioned in same breath, I think we have seen what each can and can not do..

But more importantly Edgar, Ted and the like KNOW what he can and can not do..And they wouldn't just toss all that money at him for no reason and WE ALL KNOW how much Ted Thompson hates to pass out money like that for unproven players

Upon reading the initial post, my first reaction was "Of course Grant is different than Gado. Gado was a fluke; Grant is the real deal."

But I've sat here for 10 minutes trying to find solid evidence to support that opinion and I can't honestly do it. Does that mean Grant will have the same fate as Gado? Of course not. It just means that the evidence we have on hand doesn't necessarily lend itself to the conclusion that Grant is definitively different than Gado. Here's what I can come up with though:

While both sample sizes are limited, Grant's was twice as large as Gado's.
Grant, being a star high school athlete and productive college player at a big time school, shows that the talent was there from the beginning and that he was just overlooked by NFL executives - likely due to the hand injury.

I can't come up with much else, though I'll be interested to hear your takes. Again, I think Grant is different, but I can't find the data to support it.

I'm as big of a believer in Ted Thompson and Packer management as the next guy, and I see the above reasoning a lot on this board. Regardless, it's still a logical fallacy. Appeal to authority is what I believe it to be called. The fallacy lies in that the expert's opinon (TT in this case), is used as evidence that the decision must be correct. The problem is that the argument ignores that fact that the expert can, and frequently is, wrong. So while TT's decision to sign Grant long term and not Gado, may lend credence to the idea that Grant is better than Gado, it certainly doesn't prove the case.

If you're being intellectually honest, you have to conclude that the verdict is still out on whether or not Grant is significantly different than Gado. For my money, I'd make a solid bet for that to be the case, but we can't unequivocally "know" it.

You and I do not have the ability to see practices, sit in on meetings, where as Ted Thompson , Mike McCarthy , Edgar along with others do and know EXACTLY how the 2 guys are different...

But I would agree with you that we do not know for sure if Grant has IT

Gado was a suprise and feel good story on a terrible team. Grant was a surprise on a winning team. Gado took the spotlight when the offense was garbage and there was little to be excited about, Grant took the spotlight when the offense was top-tier.

Gado had 582 yards in his best season. Grant had almost 1,000, and holds the Packers playoff single-game yardage record.

appeal to authority is valid corroborative evidence if there is ample prior evidence to support an appeal

the only thing i can say about gado is he isnt with the texans anymore either forget why grant i think he brings more to the table with he keeps going makes somthing out of nothing he looks for gaps plus he knows how to run behind players to get more yards dont get me wrong i liked gado thought he would have been good.

No they pulled him out after the first half but it wasn't due to injury. He got hurt shortly after signing his new contract. He signed it and then practiced I think twice before he went down with the injury and has missed pretty much everything else.
