It's too early to really say it was the wrong decision essentially taking Kevin King / Vince Biegel over TJ Watt. Although, first season and half, it looks to be ass bad. Only way it turns around is if Kevin King (who just won a game for the Packers) turns into a stud CB. I don't think it'll happen. What do you say?

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The dream scenario for Green Bay Packers fans played out slowly -- as all things do on draft day -- in front of their eyes.

The local hero from State U with the NFL bloodlines would be there for the taking.

Yes, it seemed destined that the Wisconsin native, Badgers star and younger brother of an All-Pro would become the 29th pick of the 2017 NFL draft.

In the moment when T.J. Watt could have stayed home and played for the Packers, then-general manager Ted Thompson instead traded the pick to the Cleveland Browns to move back to No. 33 and grab an extra fourth-round pick. Watt came off the board at No. 30 to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Thompson took cornerback Kevin King three picks later.

The move will be remembered as one of Thompson’s last major acts as general manager; he was demoted from GM to consultant after the 2017 season. That move served as a microcosm for Thompson’s last three drafts.

I wanted them to take Watt. So that was disappointing.
Biegel was supposed to be as good, according to some. But I thought Watt was much better.
Looks like I was correct in that. I wish I had been wrong.

Between Biegel and Watt, Watt is much more talented. Biegel was a very good college player and I'm happy he came to Wisconsin. However, my thoughts were that his talent projected to a fringe player in the NFL at best. Like you Cheesey it would have been great for him to prove us wrong but... I wish we could have gotten a good lineman with that pick, O or D. Usually one can find a good guard at that level(4th).

The more important aspect of the thread Is that the last three years of the Ted Thompson draft have yielded very little, despite the other geniuses that were working in the front office, many of whom are elsewhere.

There’s a tendency to fall in love with and overate your own people on Lombardi Avenue.

I think the jury is still out on King... but I think Watt looks good... and I think we can say Biegel was a mistake for us... of course I was calling for us to grab edge rusher Carl Lawson instead... and back to back Auburn DL picks.

Sick of this Ted hate.

Ted gave us THREE Super Bowls.

2009, we got ripped off.

2010, we won it all, despite being on the verge of elimination from week 10 onward.

2014, we pissed it away.

Ted's main problem is that the players he drafted were TOO GOOD. Couldn't afford to pay them all. Hayward, Hyde, etc. Then there are the injuries.

Ted was an above average GM but he's not great. His biggest catch was a mistake. A mistake that was made 23 times. Teddy didn't really want to take Aaron but he wasn't foolish enough to not take the gift that was given to him. Nevertheless he will end up in the Packers hall some day and I am ok with that.

Hyde wasn't kept because you can't reasonable pay for 3 starters prices for 2 starting spots... they decided to go with Haha and Burnett over Hyde...

Also another huge problem was the coaches wanted man coverage and they kept drafting zone CBs. They might of been BPA in terms of talent... but not in terms of scheme. One of them should have adjusted.

That's a bunch of BS. The only way king doesn't go down as a great draft pick is if he is keeps getting injured. The jury is still out on TJ Watt also. Don't get me wrong, I like him, but half of your sacks coming against Cleveland doesn't necessarily mean you are already great.

Pretty sure Hyde would have stayed if Ted knew Sam Shields was going to be out after the first quarter of the first game the following year.
Of course Ted didn't have the opportunity to go back and change what happened during any season.

Real easy to play the what if game.
I was addicted to The Hokey Pokey, but I turned myself around!
