While you are right he wasn't calling plays, as his role increased the offense regressed. He was demoted this year for a reason. He is a running backs coach. Has not succeed in other positions.

Van Pelt was the QB coach. Didn't want to be here. Mike wouldn't let him interview elsewhere. When Hundley was called upon, he wasn't ready.

Not to mention the 3 years as WR coach, where not a single WR developed

(Cobb basically came in NFL ready other than needing to adjust to the NFL)

Bennett got promoted because he's a good run game coordinator... but he struggled with the passing game. Bottom line, it's a passing league, you need to have someone that knows more about the passing game as head coach.
