It seems to me that there is an unmerited level of arrogance, a sense of over-confidence, that permeates this team. The seem to think they are so go that they can jog out there, just show up and they can win.

There does not seem to be the fire until they are down 15 points....very frustrating.

I had an old girl-friend of whom a mutual friend had opined, "the problem with Kathy is that someone told her see was good....and she still believes it." Maybe the we have the same situation here.

Heh, that reminds me of something I told my ex shortly before the end: "The problem with you is you carefully surround yourself with yes-men, and no one has ever had the courage to tell you you suck."

She ended up as a homeless stripper on the streets of New York.

Might be wrong here but I personally think anybody who thinks we can just ride our RBs is insane. Our line isn't built for that. Anytime we line up in obvious running formation we get hammered. We can't run outside because we don't have the mobility. Where we have the most success is running with 2 or 3 wideouts with limited LBs inside to help. We have been for years a team that passes to set up the run. And I think that many of our issues with getting out to slow starts in recent yards is due to McCarthy's obsession with scripting the first x number of plays for games.

How many times have you seen this happen over the last 5 years to start a game?

Run for 0-2 yards
Run for 0-2 yards
3rd and long, short. Punt. Or, first down and repeat the above, short and punt.

Repeat until down 2-3 scores, until we revert to the offense that's consistently effective for us - Letting Rodgers audible in/out of runs at the line, intermediate passing. Where I do get infuriated at times with Rodgers though is the obsession with the long ball sometimes, though.

I can't even remember any long balls this year. My brain...

This is how Aaron Rodgers stacks up against the rest of the league through five games as measured by the NFL's Next Gen Stats  :
• Time to Throw (TT): 2.9 seconds (7th longest in the league). Josh Allen holds the ball the longest at 3.17 seconds; Blaine Gabbert gets rid of the ball in 2.27 seconds and Drew Breese in 2.52 seconds. So it would appear our eyes do not deceive us; Rodgers really is holding on to the ball like a rookie.
  • Completed Air Yards (CAY): 5.8 yards (16th longest). Ryan Fitzpatrick comes in at no. 1 with 10.1 yards and Sam Bradford brings up the rear with 3.9 yards (not that it matters, since he's no longer playing). This represents average distance from the line of scrimmage that the ball is caught. Rodgers appears to be thoroughly average in this category.
  • Intended Air Yards (IAY): 8.6 yards (11th longest). Ryan Fitzpatrick averages 10.7 yards; C.J. Beathard averages 5.3 yards. This is the average distance thrown downfield on all passes attempted. Rodgers appears to be aiming slightly farther downfield than most quarterbacks.
  • Air Yards Differential (AYD): -2.8 yards (8th highest). Ryan Fitzpatrick averages -0.6 yards and Josh Allen -4.7 yards. This metric is intended to give a rough picture of how accurate a quarterback is at completing passes downfield. This means that the passes Rodgers completes travel on average almost 3 fewer yards through the air than his average attempt, which would seem to indicate that he is either struggling to complete the deep pass or is excelling at the short, high-percentage passing game, or both.
  • Aggressiveness (AGG): 12% (4th lowest). Marcus Mariota averages 9.7%; Jimmy Garoppolo put up a rather stunning 27% rate. This metric represents the percentage of passes a quarterback throws into tight coverage, defined as the presence of a defender within one yard of the intended receiver. Rodgers seems to have been rather timid compared to the rest of the league, which is no doubt also reflected in his high average TT.
  • Longest Completed Air Distance (LCAD): 60.3 yards (5th longest). Josh Allen threw the longest at 63.9 yards; Blaine Gabbert's best effort was 29.4 yards. This metric reflects the farthest downfield a quarterback has completed a pass. Arm strength doesn't seem to be Rodgers' problem this year.
  • Air Yards to Sticks (AYTS): -0.6 yards (13th). C.J. Beathard averages -3.8 yards; Tyrod Taylor averages +1.7 yards. This metric is a little confusing, because the NFL doesn't explicitly state whether negative numbers indicate catches before or beyond the marker; I'm assuming that negatives mean beyond the marker. If my assumption is correct, then Rodgers is on average completing passes about half a yard beyond the marker and isn't relying on his skill players to get the first down.
• What do the experts who grace this site make of these numbers?

The only stats I really care about is the win -lost stats.
And the Packers, and Rodgers, are not getting it done.

To me it looks like a guy who is protecting his stats. Holding the ball too long and not throwing into tight coverage seems to be someone more concerned about his touchdown to interception ratio than winning the game.

Perhaps if the statisticians made more of a big deal about QB caused sacks and fumbles his game would change, but we are all content to blame those items on the OL or to praise the other teams Defense.

Don't know if this is a power play thing with Aaron and McCarthy or if Aaron will never change. You hit the open guy. Control the clock and keep our Defense rested. I have to say if I am Pettine I am asking questions too as to why in the hell our QB isn't doing the simple things to keep the Offense on the field longer.

buckeyepackfan (14h) : I forgot, they corrected the call a week later. Lol btw HAPPY BIRTHDAY dhazer!
buckeyepackfan (14h) : That brings up the question, why wasn't Nixon down by contact? I think that was the point Kanata was making.

packerfanoutwest (14h) : well, he was
TheKanataThrilla (14h) : Eagles down by contact on the fumble....fuck you NFL

dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
