The rules have been changed bit by bit over the years to ever increasingly favor the passing game. You need to run it enough to keep defenses honest with their formations sure, but the best teams in today's game have defenses who can stop the pass and a qb who can throw it.
Nostalgia for the running game is understandable (grass is always greener) but I don't think it will result in a better record. The Packers built their offense around Rodgers just gotta ride out the injuries until things start clicking. Not the first time the Packers offense has started slow before heating up later in the year.
