As I watch some of the top teams from around the league, their wide outs and defensive backs just seem to be faster than ours. I don’t know if this is actually the case or whether field conditions, such a short grass or artificial turf, make the players in the games I’ve watched seem faster.

I was particularly struck by watching Sam Shields last night. The man is fast and it makes a difference in his coverage. (That notwithstanding, he is still one hit away from being a vegetable and I wish he weren’t playing)

Combine times don’t necessarily translate to game speed, so I am wondering if there is some meaningful practical source of speed statistics that is commercially available. If so, I’m curious where the Packers stack up. Does anybody know?

There might be something on the next gen stats that answers your question.

Right now I think the focus needs to be on the guys that can't run.

Our Oline is averaging allowing 4 sacks per game. Tied for 28th in the league. Those are drive killers. Out of 12 sacks I doubt they converted a first down more than once or twice. I know we will get the Arod holding the ball thing here but with his injury he's been slinging it much quicker these days.

The Dline line hasn't been the cornerstone of the defense it was predicted to be either. They rank dead last in "Adjusted yards gained per running attempt' and dead last in stuffs at or behind the line. That's ranked #32 guys. Those guys are better than this!

One last stat that has to come around. They average 10 yards to gain on third down out of 41 3d down situations. We are not going to sustain drives until something good starts happening on 1st and 2nd down. 10 yards is pitiful. That's not all on the big guys I know but I thought I would throw it in.

If the QB held the ball for over 3 seconds, that's on the QB.
If the QB was sacked under 3 seconds, that's on the OL/RB/TE.

The only DL who seems like he has struggled to me against the run is Dean Lowry

I would even take it further and say that Martinez hasn't been very impressive this year either and Morrison sucks. Hopefully Burks can bring something there.
