Positives:

-Another roster spot for someone who else who may compete at a more needed position
- Less chance for locker room drama, player not wanting to be here

QUIT IT! You’re distorting reality to prop and accommodate your biases regarding GB’s GM.

Denver just traded Riley Dixon to Giants for a conditional 7th [after singing King] and Vogel is quite a bit better. [Beast was right, Vogel surely had trade value].

Dixon (’16 7th rounder) last year netted 40.2 (#22) with same inside 20 rate as Vogel [I typo’d earlier that he was 9th in net, Vogel was 7th (41.6)]. Dixon had 3 TBs (Vogel 2) and 2 punts blocked (Vogel 0). This guy was in his 2d year and not nearly as good as rookie Vogel.

If Vogel were cut, he and his 2 years/$1.1M salary would surely be claimed by the Giants or Cleveland [Their punter is 33 YO, net 40.6, and is due 2 years/$5.7M].

So, any other team with a lousy punter or an over paid one [EG, TB ‘s 29YO punter netted 2 yards less and is due 2 years/$6M; Seattle’s 36YO punter netted almost 3 yards less and is due 2 years/$5.6M] would need to TRADE for Vogel to upgrade their punter position and some could save millions in cap over next 2 years.

Hell, a good GM might have several bidders and work it into a 6th.

And if Vogel don’t want to compete, well then that’s just too damn bad for him. A good GM doesn’t cater to this type of kiddy crap. A good GM doesn’t give away team assets. He’s a punter, he’s not going to create discord on the team; his failure to act like a responsible adult will harm his career. A good GM would pull out the contract and say, “Son, I expect you to live up to your word as a man…and if you chose to be less than a man, but instead act like a unkind uncaring soulless Millennial sniveling snowflake its-all-about-me-me-me bitch, then we’ll take the requisite steps to hold you to your contract.”

Surely Vogel has a better chance of making several other teams. So, surely Vogel and his agent Rosenhaus stormed into Dorsey's office today demanding his release. Dorsey just looked at them for about 2 minutes motionless and expressionless and then said, "Get the FU$% out of my office...report to ST coach by 9am tomorrow."

See, Dorsey is not a flake.

Vogel was a good punter. This wasn’t a diva routine after the fact. They drafted him, because Vogel has some kind of a problem.

If he turns out to be very good or great, it will end up a very good move. Not much different from every other draft pick.

I'm still laughing at Barnfarn claiming someone else is distorting facts to accommodate their bias towards the new GM.

Why not try and get the best Punter in the draft at a cost of one of your many late round picks? The stats on this kid is pretty damn good. Having a connection to Wisconsin and Packer fans in the family I hope will push him even more to succeed.

I do hope they bring in another Punter for training camp just to push him. I wonder if Peter Mortell is available?

Punter and long snapper don’t seem like a big deal. But have lousy ones, and it could cost you several games.
Have great ones and it could save your season.

But net yards is the most important stat for the punting unit. Though if Vogel was so horrible at hang time and they were still 7th, then the team should have resign Janis.

Heck if Janis is so horrible at WR, I don't understand why they didn't try him out as a FS... as he's got the speed and can tackle. While he might be extremely limited in playing the deep FS role only, that might be better than what he has done at WR.

But for the inside the 20 stat, I've always found that stat overrated as it all depends on where they punted from, which the Punter has zero control over.
