just got done talking to a very knowledgeable football guru and he got me thinking, giving a new role to Thompson is like a Master Chief being in charge of the motor pool.

I think a new GM may want to make a splash/signature draft pick this year to make his mark on the team early. I say it's a trade up for Saquon Barkley.

Who hires the DC? Mike McCarthy or the new GM. It would seem to me to be MM.

If you were an experienced DC, you would not want to come into an organization where your boss might be gone in a year. Accordingly, don't be surprised to see Mike McCarthy get extended for at least a year or two before any decision on DC is made. The delay caused by negotiations could be costly.

The only exception is if an internal candidate is named.

EDIT:Ok, I get what you're saying, delays caused by negotiating with staff. This is one reason it appears to me they are going to promote from within.

And you probably know MM (with a healthy Rodgers) has a good as chance as anyone (except maybe Bill Belichick) to keep going forward getting more extensions.

I feel like the cold weather might scare some of the coaches currently in warm weather off more, then possibility being fired, because you can be fired at any time.

Not the best draft for a WR like that. Minkah Fitzpatrick maybe for DB.

I've mainly been thinking edge rusher.

Arden Key, LSU, 6-6, 238
Clelin Ferrell, Clemson, 6-5, 265
Marcus Davenport, UTSA, 6-7, 255
Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, Oklahoma, 6-1, 242
Harold Landry, Boston College, 6-3, 250

I actually think Ted Thompson could be highly valuable to an organization, just not as the General Manager. The guy is a scout through and through. Let him grind away in a role focused on unknown players, UDFA, over-achievers, and WRs. Trust his recommendations for those moments, but have someone else make all the other decisions and manage the organization.

There are a lot of great technicians out there that have no business being a manager. The positions require different skill sets. Ted is a scout, and in some ways, a good one. Just not for defense.

My money’s on Gutekunst, but I like Alonzo Highsmith. That’s who I’d go with.
