The seat is getting hot!

Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Dom Capers, who has been with the team since 2009, is not expected to return next season, league sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

This will be the most significant of the off-season changes to Green Bay's defensive coaching staff.

Capers, 67, is coming to the end of his ninth season in charge of the Packers' defense. It's the longest he's spent in any NFL job since he broke into the league with the New Orleans Saints in 1986.

He was twice a head coach -- both with expansion teams (the Carolina Panthers in 1995-98, and the Houston Texans in 2001-2005) -- and was fired from both jobs.

Capers addressed speculation of his job earlier this week by saying "my plans are from week to week in this business."

I agree with most of the comments think Fangio would be an excellent choice. He has done alot with not so much in Chicago.
Any thoughts on Jim Leonard? The Badger defense was the best coached defense I have seen in a while. Rationale:
- He has Pro experience on the field. He would command the respect from our young players.
- He was a tough-nosed, smart player, neither of which our DB's seems to be.
- There were very very few blown assignments vs. what we have seen for the last 6 years, especially at crunch time
- He is creative in his blitz scheme design
- His defenses have players who know how to set an edge..

And on Leonard, NO!!!! And I don't know a thing about his game.

The guy has no NFL coaching experience, which means he only gets an NFL DC gig if he's considered a young-gun genius wunderkind.

The problem with the wunderkinds is that in their first year the D has some growing pains, in the 2nd year they do great. But then he becomes a HC and ya gotta start all over again. 2 yeas ago Bears hired Adam Gase as OC; the offense looked good and after 1 year he left for a HC gig.

I want a guy who's days of HCing have past, like a Capers, a Fangio, a Steve Spagnuolo. GB almost hired Mike Nolan 9 years ago; I'll take him too.

Said this in another thread concerning our D Coaching. What about Lovie Smith? I always had a bunch of respect for him. Coaching College right now so probably can motivate the young guys. Seemed to always have had a great D while in Chicago. Not sure how his D did in Tampa, but their organization was a bit dysfunctional when he got their.

beast (30-Jan) : College Coaches wouldn't want that publicly, as it would hurt recruiting and they might not get the job.
beast (30-Jan) : I thought they were supposed to publicly announce them, at least the NFL ones. Hafley was from college, so I believe different rules.
Mucky Tundra (30-Jan) : Who knows who they're interviewing? I mean, nobody knew about Hafley and then out of nowhere he was hired
