If GB manages to finish with a 8 - 8 record for 2017, then they may just get to pick somewhere in the middle of the 2018 Draft. That could be from the 14th to the 17th pick.

Last years draft pick at those spots were:

#14 pick /Eagles
DE Derek Barnett - Tenn

#15 pick / Colts
FS Malik Hooker - Ohio State

#16 pick / Ravens
CB Marlon Humphrey - Alabama

#17 pick / Redskins
DT Jonathan Allen - Alabama

These players have scored from an A to a B by Bleacher Report for their 2017 Seasons (so far). If GB can do as well, they could get a high value DE.

The 3-4 defense traditionally revolves around the front 7 particularly the play-making ability of the LB's. Our starting line-backers consists of one emerging stud (Blake Martinez) the rest at this point are average at best. CM3 is done maybe he could be used as a specialist with limited snaps. Perry had a nice start to the year and a good contract year (shocker) but as always is very inconsistent or injured and Ahmad Brooks is solid but aging. I think its well overdue to invest in some high end OLB's to provide some consistent pressure and stop the DB's from looking awful every game and start take advantage of the great job the front 3 have been doing this year. That's just my opinion anyway.

I hope that in this season finale, the packers do not win any games and end up with 7-9.
It will give us a much better position in the draft and probably better players for the next season.
They need to choose very well, the defense needs extreme help.
It is also necessary to act in force in this free agency.
The jags have achieved Calais Campbell and AJ Boye the Packers need to act of the same genre, otherwise they are lose the years of Aaron

IMO, GB needs to draft the "best available" monster that can sack opposing QBs.

Of course this is assuming they resign Adams and Burnett.

If for GB's 1st pick in the 2018 Draft the "best available" player is an offensive lineman and Ted Thompson grabs him over a pass rusher, would anyone be disappointed. I would be, as I believe that GB's greatest need is a monster pass rusher.

I agree the greatest needs are stud pass rushers and stud coverage guys.
But protecting Aaron Rodgers is also important.. and Bulaga tore his ACL late in the season, which means he might start the season on the PUP list and not return until mid season. And the NFL has this habit the last couple of years of putting a number of high profile match-ups early in the year.

We'll get to see 8 the Packers trust Spriggs and Murphy to be the starting options at RT or if they want to expand on those options in FA and draft.

Also I'm currently not loving the edge rushers in this draft... that could change once I get to study them more.

Smokey, I think this thread is a great idea, but it requires people to think and do homework....

In the ideal world, we would have the cap room to fill offensive line holes with free agents thereby acquiring known quality. The first priority is to protect the franchise. Then, we would draft on the defensive side.

The first problem is that (other than Jahri Evans) we seem reluctant to acquire FA's on the line. The learning curve is relatively long for offensive linemen and letting them make their mistakes elsewhere before signing them here would be the correct strategy, if we had the willingness.

The second problem is that when we draft on the defensive side, there seems to be an inability to get that talent to perform at an acceptable level of performance. This may be because:
- We draft poorly
- We coach them poorly
- There is a disconnect between the skills drafted and the skills needed to play our system
- All of the above

beast (23-Jan) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job

Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (22-Jan) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.

Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
