I’m going to start by saying I’m a big Davante Adams fan.
I like his athleticism, his ability to get any ball and the chemistry he was able to make with backup Brett Hundley in a short time that will ultimately make him a decent amount of money in a contract year.
However, I would not sign Adams.
Of course you read that and think I’m off my rocker. You’re probably saying, “How the heck do the Packers NOT bring back their No. 1 wideout from a this year?” I understand that, because Jordy Nelson will be 33 next season, Randall Cobb hasn’t shown much of anything this year and the tight end position has been one big regret.
First, it comes down to health. Adams has been decleated not once but twice this year by Danny Trevathan and Thomas Davis. Adams has now suffered three concussions in two seasons. We’re not quite to Sam Shields territory yet, but the Packers have to start giving pause with the number of vicious hits that he has taken. It sounds disingenuous, but the Packers can’t shell out over $11 million a season to another receiver only to see him nurse another concussion.
