Probably safe bet if Aaron Rodgers gets traded, Davante Adams won't be sticking around. I am not saying Adams will follow Rodgers because if it's the Broncos, they won't pay him $20 million a year when they have so much invested in the WR's they have already.

Edit, nevermind. He basically said as much. Bart Winkler ✔ @WinksThinks - Davante Adams on @TheHerd admits if Rodgers wasn’t in Green Bay it would “potentially” affect his free agency decision and he would “definitely have to do some extra thinking if my guy wasn’t here”. Not terribly surprising to hear

Anyways... my point being, I'm surprised more FAs don't target great QBs more... they usually follow the money first, weather/location second.

Yes, I've been absolutely shocked they hadn't extended Adams contract, then when the Rodgers stuff broke, I was like... oh... that's probably why. It might get interesting where does Adams sign next year? ... hell, I'm not sure we can afford to pay him, as I believe the Packers are more over the cap than any other team for 2022... and just pushed most of their big money contract's back. They'll probably have to release Preston Smith and Lowry's contracts just breaking even (unless there is a surprise jump in sales this season). And that's not counting draft picks and resigning some of the WRs.

A lot can be done to make 2022 better because 2023 the Packers have over 40 under contract through that year and a projected $80 million below the cap.

Yes there is $80 million available in 2023... but that's still bottom 25% of the league... and that's with the the exception of the 2021, 2022, 2023 draft picks, that with WRs or CBs signed, both Packers starting Safety and OLBers being free agents, as well as starting OL Jenkins, Patrick and Turner. Also Tonyan, Lewis and Sternberger would be free agents as well. Plus some DL like Keke, Lowry and Lancaster not signed as well.

So yeah, there is $80 million... but as far as starters currently signed there is just QB Rodgers, RB Jones, LT Bak, OL Meyers, OL Runyan, NT Clark, OLB Gary, ILB Barns, ILB Martin.... that's basically a rebuilding or reloading year right now with our cap being tight. And yes, more guys could become starters, but some of the draft picks will bust... usually more than half do.

2023 is also the year that the TV contract money comes in, but that's being split evenly between the teams, so really all players are going to be asking for a lot more.

If Rodgers isn’t here, I can see Adams leaving.
If he has to be on a rebuilding team, he might as well go to a place where he can get rich.
As I doubt we could afford him.
Losing our QB AND star WR would mean a complete rebuild which could take years to get back to winning.
Our days of being spoiled might be over.

Same thing happened with Bert. Certain guys went along with Bert whever he changed the playcall or went out of his way to counteract the team. Ted had to clear those guys out.

The offense is actually better when Adams is out. Prevents Aaron from forcing it to him too much.

Btw I do trust Matt and his system. There aren't going to be "down years." A down year for us will be 11-6.
