I don't think it's foolish. The Packers defense has been consistently average-to-bad for years now. For example, I don't have much confidence that the Packers will defend the middle of the field on defense because they haven't in years. There's a CHANCE that will improve with the young safeties, but it's more likely that it will continue to be an issue. Things like that are likely a schematic and coaching issue, so until we see the Packers consistently defending the middle of the field, it's a reasonable assumption to expect similar results. The burden of proofs is on the Packers, because recent history is not on their side. Different players, similar results. The common denominators remain the same with the scheme and coaching staff.
I'm confident the Packers will make the playoffs and I'll continue to have little to no faith in the Packers defense stepping up when it matters most against the QBs that actually matter. I have no problem standing by that statement. If the Packers win the Super Bowl, it will largely be because of the offense. Hopefully the defense can at least be decent, because it's unlikely it will be much more, especially once the injuries start.
