Back in the "old days", the owners of businesses was usually on site, and worked right beside the workers. So there was a "family" feeling.
I remember the company my Dad worked at, he saw the owner every day. And the guy threw a big family picnic, with pony rides for the kids, music, a miniature train the kids could ride and entertainment and LOTS of food!
But today, most companies are owned by corporations that don't give a darn about the workers. Thus, the workers don't care either.
