It is hard to argue with this.

It wouldn’t have taken much.

Add one player here, another player there. Win home-field advantage and it’s easy to picture an NFC Championship Game at Lambeau Field turning out much differently than the one played last Sunday at the Georgia Dome.

Only the Green Bay Packers under general manager Ted Thompson would rather sit on their hands than procure players … at least veteran players. Now they’ll be sitting home once again as another more aggressive franchise, this time the upstart Atlanta Falcons, represents the NFC in the Super Bowl.

Of course, Thompson is correct when he says the way to win in the National Football League is through the draft. Ron Wolf said the same thing.

No team, however, can win it all without significant player acquisition outside of the draft.

The Packers don’t win the 31st Super Bowl if Wolf doesn’t trade for Brett Favre and sign Reggie White, among many others.

I could've written that piece. My goodness. It's BEAUTIFUL!

This is the best part of it as it comes from a former GM:

“We all make mistakes,” said one former GM. “Maybe you can’t get better. Maybe the guy you want you can’t get, but at least you’re trying. I always felt obligation to the head coach to try.

“But that’s their (the Packers’) philosophy, and it’s worked for them because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback.”

The acolytes will scatter. Fingers in ears and hands over their eyes. Truth. Straight truth.

Here's another glorious snippet:

McCarthy, presumably Murphy and probably Thompson can bury their heads in the sand and label a 12-7 record and annihilation in the NFC title game as success for a team that opened the season as the Super Bowl co-favorite and had Rodgers play nearly every snap.

That’s just noise from a podium from people hoping their loyal fan base forever and always keeps the faith and doesn’t judge 2016 for the missed opportunity that it was.

It wouldn’t have taken much to put the Packers over the top this season. It won’t take much for them to get over the top next season.

So the ball rests squarely in Thompson’s court. For Packers fans, it must be depressing to know it’s likely little or nothing will change in the way he puts the team together.

Hint: maintaining status quo isn’t the way to the Super Bowl.

EDIT: God bless, Bob McGinn. If only we had a sea of voices saying what Bob's saying instead of the feel good we had an awesome season that our Packers culture feeds off. There is no internal pressure to get better so some external needs to be applied. Sadly, I feel like Bob... all the external pressure is just going to get guys like Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy to say... We don't pay attention to anyone outside this building. It isn't fantasy football. The rank and file will be placated while those like Bob, I and a growing number will just continue being amazed by what others aren't seeing.

I guess old Bob has gotten himself hooked on Madden.

With the benefit of his subterfuge, 100% hindsight and McGinn being an old man that yells at the clouds [Matub] with no personal life with nothing to do but think about and hate on Ted and this is all he’s got? This is proof Ted is the best.

Once again we cannot trust McGinn, he is just DISHONEST and anyone that fawns over DISHONESTY is either a sociopath or deranged. It’s a skill to say one thing and get the careless reader or those that are dumb with no football acumen to infer another, he could have taught Goebbels a lot about propaganda.

McGinn writes: [After citing the actual terms of the trade earlier in the article (4th Rnd or Conditional 3rd) for plausible deniability] “Belichick stole a first- or second-round talent for possibly a fourth-round pick.” In reality it’s only a 4th rounder if Rowe doesn’t play well. And Rowe was a CB picked 47, that is a middle 2nd, so that is not a 1st round talent, every GM passed on him in the 1st and half way through second.

Here’s who McSpinn says would have made a difference in Atl.:

Eric Rowe week 8 was PFFs worst rated player of all positions [not just CB]. He had better stat success against WR-less teams like SF and NYJ. Now NE gave up a 3rd rounder if Rowe is good, if bad it’s a 4th. How do we know Ted didn’t try to acquire Rowe? Obviously, giving up a 2nd rnd CB so early means he was either unteachable or a locker room problem. If the Philly GM has a choice to send Rowe to NE or GB [who they play in a few weeks and are in NFC] and both are offering a 3rd, where does he go? Correct: NE. So if Ted wanted him he had to offer more, maybe a lot more to Philly.

Cox-A lawless malcontent, who stinks [was cut week 12 and no teams wanted him]

“Antonio Cromartie-a 4 time probowler” McGinn writes [Cromartie STUNK in INDY, cut after week 4 and no teams wanted him].”

For Cox and Cromartie, McGinn says they were cut; but leaves out that these guys didn’t play after that, not one single team wanted them. Like I said Goebbels in the flesh!

We could have also signed Jamal Rolle. Cant believe McClown and his "little [uffda] me" didn't harp on that one.

It’s funny Bob had to get his anonymous stuff from an EX GM, one not in touch and not smart enough to be employed instead of a current scout or front office guy. Bet Bobby-boy called everyone he knows to get a quote to put in his notes to trash Ted and he had to settle on an old fired washed-up GM. Methinks Mike Sherman!😂 Gotcha McSpinn. 😂 Guess Mikey's still a little sore at Ted taking his job and firing his dumb ass.

And read McSpinn’s evaluation of Rodgers' ATl. Game. Rodgers played his worse game in his last 9; but better than most of his first 10 games. McGinn was way OVERLY critical, a certifiable temper tantrum, Rodgers made several very nice plays.

Here’s a fact, with the way Rodgers played QB in ATL., GB doesn’t beat Ryan even if Ted got everyone on McSpinn’s list and a roster exemption to suit up 65 guys for the game.

Ted will go all-in on free agency, as long as it doesn't cost him compensatory picks.

It's not a question of, "Is this player worth the money?" The question is, "Is this player worth the money, PLUS a third or fourth rounder, who will be paid as a third or fourth rounder for the next four years?"

Jared Cook? His contract was up, he was unrestricted. Didn't cost us a player with a rookie contract for four years. Same thing with Peppers. Same thing as when Ted signs Packers free agents.

It's all about value, it's all about rational calculus.

Anyone have a list of unrestricted guys?

So. Ted's the best. Bob is a liar.

The main theme couldn't possibly true?

No one wants to take a crack at the actual theme of this post which is the method Ted uses failed us this season?

This is what we're doing or not. This is why we get guys like WR Herb Waters added as a CB.

Beyond embarrassing^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Ad hominem. All over the place. Bob is 100% right. Who cares about Rowe? The main point is spot on.

beast (16h) : Sounds like no serious injuries from the Saints game and Jacobs and Watson should play in the Vikings game
packerfanoutwest (20h) : both games Watson missed, Packers won
Martha Careful (22h) : I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas!
Mucky Tundra (24-Dec) : Oh I know about Jacobs, I just couldn't pass up an opportunity to mimic Zero lol
buckeyepackfan (24-Dec) : Jacobs was just sat down, Watson re-injured that knee that kept him out 1 game earlier
buckeyepackfan (24-Dec) : I needed .14 that's. .14 points for the whole 4th quarter to win and go to the SB. Lol
Mucky Tundra (24-Dec) : Jacobs gonna be OK???
Zero2Cool (24-Dec) : Watson gonna be OK???
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : Inactives tonight for the Pack: Alexander- knee Bullard - ankle Williams - quad Walker -ankle Monk Heath
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : No Jaire, but hopefully the front 7 destroys the line of scrimmage & forces Rattler into a few passes to McKinney.
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : minny could be #1 seed and the Lions #5 seed
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : We'd have same Division and Conference records. Strength of schedule we edge them
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I just checked. What tie breaker?
bboystyle (23-Dec) : yes its possible but unlikely. If we do get the 5th, we face the NFCS winner
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Ahh, ok.
bboystyle (23-Dec) : yes due to tie breaker
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I mean, unlikely, yes, but mathematically, 5th is possible by what I'm reading.
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : If Vikings lose out, Packers win out, Packers get 5th, right?
bboystyle (23-Dec) : Minny isnt going to lose out so 5th seed is out of the equation. We are playing for the 6th or 7th seed which makes no difference
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : beast, the ad revenue goes to the broadcast company but they gotta pay to air the game on their channel/network
beast (23-Dec) : If we win tonight the game is still relative in terms of 5th, 6th or 7th seed... win and it's 5th or 6th, lose and it's 6th or 7th
beast (23-Dec) : Mucky, I thought the ad revenue went to the broadcasting companies or the NFL, at least not directly
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I think the revenue share is moot, isn't it? That's the CBA an Salary Cap handling that.
bboystyle (23-Dec) : i mean game becomes irrelevant if we win tonight. Just a game where we are trying to play spoilers to Vikings chance at the #1 seed
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : beast, I would guess ad revenue from more eyes watching tv
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I would think it would hurt the home team because people would have to cancel last minute maybe? i dunno
beast (23-Dec) : I agree that it's BS for fans planning on going to the game. But how does it bring in more money? I'm guessing indirectly?
packerfanoutwest (23-Dec) : bs on flexing the game....they do it for the $$league$$, not the hometown fans
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I see what you did there Mucky
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : dammit. 3:25pm
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Packers Vikings flexed to 3:35pm
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : Upon receiving the news about Luke Musgrave, I immediately fell to the ground
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : Yeah baby!
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : LUKE MUSGRAVE PLAYING TONIGHT~!~~~~WOWHOAAOHAOAA yah
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I wanna kill new QB's ... blitz the crap out of them.
beast (23-Dec) : Barry seemed to get too conservative against new QBs, Hafley doesn't have that issue
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : However, we seem to struggle vs new QB's
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Should be moot point, cuz Packers should win tonight.
packerfanoutwest (23-Dec) : ok I stand corrected
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Ok, yes, you are right. I see that now how they get 7th
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : 5th - Packers win out, Vikings lose out. Maybe?
beast (23-Dec) : Saying no to the 6th lock.
beast (23-Dec) : No, with the Commanders beating the Eagles, Packers could have a good chance of 6th or 7th unless the win out
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I think if Packers win, they are locked 6th with chance for 5th.
beast (23-Dec) : But it doesn't matter, as the Packers win surely win one of their remaining games
beast (23-Dec) : This is not complex, just someone doesn't want to believe reality
beast (23-Dec) : We already have told you... if Packers lose all their games (they won't, but if they did), and Buccaneers and Falcons win all theirs
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I posted it in that Packers and 1 seed thread
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I literally just said it.
