I was thinking a lot about MM's comments regarding Dom Capers and his seeming love affair with his DC. There's little doubt that Dom knows more about defense than most of the guys out DCing in the NFL. However, this is the problem with our club. Knowledge of defense and experience with it is NOTHING if you aren't passionate and a great communicator. I would guess Dom communicates just fine. My inkling is he has no spark, no zip. All his knowledge and experience is pretty meaningless if he doesn't have the passion.
That is the word I would use to best describe our failings. Passion, or lack thereof. Mike McCarthy is comfortable in his job as is Dom and Ted. You've got a calcified structure in Green Bay that feels no urgency. Now, I'm reading that Mark Murphy might be the one behind the chatter we're going to go for it this year. Murphy, Thompson, McCarthy, Capers all have one thing in common. None of them inspire me whatsoever. Listening to anything they have to say is flatline on the EKG meter. Where is someone who inspires in our organization. We have a bunch of comfortable, mechanical pieces. It takes one spark to start a whole blaze. Where is our spark? Rodgers doesn't have it either...Clay? Nope. Who has this ingredient? Kevin Greene had it. We need his type of passion or crazy. Wolf had it..Holmgren was fiery. Brett was a sold out warrior. This entire bunch of Packers from the top onto the field is just a colorless group of guys. I loved Aaron and wanted Brett gone so he could play but I remember when that happened I just felt like we lost our aura. That little something extra we need is passion. I hope and pray there is a new fiery star player coming to Green Bay or a front office type. Just something that can drive this emotionless group of men toward a title.
Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."
