As fans of the Green Bay Packers, it was not easy to see then loose to Atlanta in the NFC Championship Game. The loss has however highlighted some of the changes that forum members would like to see. These changes include, but are not limited to the following :

1) Replace Ted Thompson as GM of the Packers.

2) Replace Dom Capers as GB's Defensive Coordinator.

3) Reset GB's Team priorities, placing the Teams Defense ahead of the Offense.

4) Reevaluate the entire Packer roster with the focus on talent, speed, brains, age, etc. ...

5) Address the repair/rehabilitation of Lambeau Field as well as the Teams Facilities as needed.

This thread has been created for this forums members to file their opinions as to the future operations of the GB Packers. All post will be seriously considered as all sides deserve to be heard .

[cheers]

Instead of freaking out, here is what needs to happen.

1. Ted Thompson needs to announce that after 2017, he will be stepping down to give the GM position to Elliott Wolf. In this time, Elliott Wolf will basically work side-by-side with Ted. Wolf will probably be more aggressive in FA and Ted will probably let him do it.

2. Dom Capers needs to be talked to by the staff if he thinks he can continue to produce. Hopefully, the team can gracefully lead him to retirement by saying "if we can't find success with this team this year, we will have to find new directions." And hey, a man in desperation can do wonders. If he decides to take the challenge, have someone on your staff you are ready to give the keys to early midseason. Midseason changes are not fun, but if you involve that possible replacement close in power to what Dom does, the switch shouldn't be bad.

3. Trade down and get yourself many defensive players with high ceilings.

4. Resign Eddie and Cook and Lang

5. Resign Shields, but no way at the contract he is at. See where he is at in preseason. If we lose him to another team and he "magically" becomes normal, we will never forget it.

6. See if Aaron will re-do his contract just a liiiiiiiiiittle bit to get that FA he wants.

Does anyone actually remember what happened before we made it to the SB in the 2010 season? Anyone?

It's not rocket science. We had an infusion of new coaches. New passion. Different voices and a recently acquired difference maker on D. I'm not sure why this needs to be over thought. Make some changes to our leadership and bring in difference makers on D or even O. Add something to get excited about. There was a unique energy back then that hasn't been around since. Give the team and fanbase something to energize us. Not status quo. That's a buzz kill.

Can't you see Finley on Family night? U can't?

We had an energy and an expectation something great was coming. Haven't felt that in a long time. Only comes through big moves. Let's make them. New GM...new HC... new DC. Make a splash in FA. Do you hear that? Kerplunk... Brett Favre acquired in trade...kerplunk...Reggie White given biggest contract in NFL history at the time...Kerplunk...Santana Dotson and Sean Jones signed for a SB run... Boom, Lil' Vinny hoisted in Nawlins. Oh, not enough? Kerplunk...new staff members brought in including Dom, Kevin, Mike, etc... new voices on D. Splash...Woodson and Pickett. Splash... trade up with use of our pick obtained in Favre trade for Clay Matthews after getting a stud at 9. ===SuperBowl in Dallas.

Added just Peppers...almost...choke.

Added Cook, got healthy, huge run... debacle due to nothing on defense.

What are we going to do in 2017? Sit on our hands which is TT's preferred method? OR... Are we going to go ALL IN, for freaking once? I can tell you what each thing will mean. Let's actually try to win it not flat line so we can make playoffs two years from now and lose. Let's try to win NEXT SEASON. ALL IN. Geesh, we have the QB. Give him some defense for once... it's been 6 years of dread there.

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

1 - Get Capers out NOW! He can't make adjustments and he loves that zone defense regardless of who we play. This coverage of his gets lit up regularly. Injuries played a part, but you can't expect to get stops on defense by playing soft coverage against guys like Julio. I lost all hope today when I saw guys crossing over the middle uncovered, nor contested in any form until they already had the ball in their hands. I will be hesitant to watch anymore games as long as he has this job.

2 - Ted needs to either spend a few bucks on much needed free agents, or step down for someone who will. Seriously - people use the "small market" excuse as to why he "has a hard time inking players." Yes, because so many guys would rather go to Cleveland for the endorsement opportunities over playing for a CONTENDER? Adding his lack of success on drafting defensive players and you end up realizing he is not as amazing as people think. I have no faith in him to improve anything.

3 - Training staff needs evaluated/replaced. We are always one of the most injured teams and it would be insane to continue believing that we are simply unlucky. Hamstring injuries are a regularity - UNACCEPTABLE! Some will disagree, but my opinion on the matter will not change.

4 - Going along with #2, We NEED to get a shutdown corner. As I am well aware that we started the season with Shields, there is a good chance they won't have him next year. There needs to be a plan to either bring him back, or someone who is capable of his role.

5 - DBs need to work out with the receivers and learn to catch a ball. We have seen so many missed opportunities literally slip out of their hands. That near pick in the end zone against Atlanta was basically their last change to get any traction in that game, and predictably it got away.

1- Dom needs to go. 5 years ago.

2- Ted needs to go, this year or the next.

3- McCarthy stays. No question. A full offseason to design around a more open/flexible running scheme with Monty instead of tubby.

4- Sign Cook, shouldn't be too expensive.

5- let C. Matthews know, his seat is getting 🔥

6- renegotiate, but keep Peppers. Move him to a "KGB" role. I wouldn't dump him yet, bigger holes to fill first.

7- Start Kenny Clark

8 - Change Montgomery's number

9- retire Shields ($$$)

10- Draft CBs, ILBs, DE, TE (to pair with cook)

In addition, some of his choices for the Defensive Line lack aggressiveness. It could also be that Dom Capers puts good players in poor formations that fail dreadfully. Last it could be poor players being poorly coached.

My point is this : Draft better players (CBs are currently the greatest need) and place them in defenses that allow them to succeed. Free Agents should also be considered as well, but let's build up the Packer Defense FIRST, starting with a new GM and DC . The new motto should read, Defense Rules .

Montgomery may not be listed as a RB next season if Lacy / Starks return healthy they will compete with Christine Michael. He may then earn a spot in the WR core. He has earned his spot, but where it will be next season is yet to be determined.

More important, GB's new motto should read - DEFENSE RULES !

We are in the NFC Championship and we have guys who have been starting all season passing off the best WR in the game to air. We had guys like Hayward and House who go on and play solid football in other schemes who while they showed a lot of ability here also had a lot of moments where they looked lost and confused.

Every year pretty much every player in our defense has several moments where they don't know what to do or are on a different page as someone else. We actually had a pretty good front 7 this year so I don't care if Sam Shields was out there's no reason our secondary should have been exposed that badly. Dom's defense can't cover for any weaknesses AT ALL. We need basically pro bowl players at every level for the scheme to not just work but to not be an utter embarrassment. Pretty much any defense would work in that case.

We can draft more CBs and bring in some FAs but if they struggle to learn and execute the overly complicated coverages the defense will still be bad.

TheKanataThrilla (9-Aug) : NFL Network is broadcasting the game tonight, but not in Canada. Not sure why as no local television is showing the game.
beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Zero- Did you see what I posted about Voice of Reason and his wife? She posted over at fleaflicker that they are both "In"
Zero2Cool (7-Aug) : Well, not crazy, it makes sense. Crazy I didn't notice/find it earlier
Zero2Cool (7-Aug) : it's crazy how one stored procedure to get data bogged everything down for speed here
dfosterf (7-Aug) : to herd cats or goldfish without a bowl. They reminded me of the annual assembly of our fantasy league
dfosterf (7-Aug) : out on a field trip, outfitting them with little yellow smocks. Most of the little folk were well behaved, but several were like trying
dfosterf (7-Aug) : Yesterday my wife and I spent the afternoon on the waterfront here in Alexandria, Va. A daycare company took about 15 three/four year olds
wpr (7-Aug) : seems faster. yay
dfosterf (7-Aug) : Wife of reason posted on the in/out thread on fleaflicker that both she and vor are in

Zero2Cool (7-Aug) : Sure does feel like site is more snappy
Zero2Cool (6-Aug) : I thought that was the Lions OL
Mucky Tundra (6-Aug) : Travis Glover placed on IR; seasons over for him
Zero2Cool (6-Aug) : found bad sql in database, maybe site faster now?
dfosterf (5-Aug) : I'm going to call that a good move.
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Packers sign CB Corey Ballentine
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : I'm not sure how to kill the draft order just yet so it's not so confusing.
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : *to be able
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : and because it's not a dynasty league (which makes a lot more sense to be ability to trade picks)
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Oh I know; I was just exploring and it blew my mind that you could trade picks because of the whole reordering thing
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Zero, I think I preferred my offer: your 1st for my 15th rounder
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Keep in mind, we do a draft reorder once all members locked in
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : You can have my 12th Rd for your 2nd round
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Hey i didn't know we could trade picks in fantasy
