Now that we’re going to be picking #32; just couldn’t help looking at 2017. I have 36 guys under contract and added 12 ERFAs denoted by *.

36 contracts leaves $52.291M cap space [assumes Shields 9M; Guion 3.3M; and Starks 3M cut]
2 ERFA contracts: -$6M
5 Draft picks: -$5M
Leaving about $41.3M in cap space assuming new cap is 168M.
Note: cutting Pennell cost us 318K in dead money; raising dead cap to $375K, this is unbelievable. Of course we’ll get a little dead cap from Shields 3.125M, Gioun 333K and Starks 750K.

Roster:
Daniels, Clark, Lowry
Ringo*, Price*

Fackrell, Ryan, Martinez, CM3
Gilbert*, Thomas*

Randall, Dix, Burnett, Gunter
Rollins, Dorleant, Hawkins, Goodson, Brice, Evans, Whitehead*

Bahktieri, Taylor, Linsley, Spriggs, Bulaga
Murphy, Patrick*, Flores*

Rodgers, Cajuste*

Nelson, Cobb, Adams, Allison, Davis, Janis

Monty, Crockett*, Jackson*, Ripkowski, Kerridge*

Rodgers, Hundley, Callahan

Crosby, Schum*

Free agents in order of Importance adjusted for their $$:
Goode (Min salary)
Perry [Unless we gotta beat a Vernon-type deal (5 at 85M); then we take the 3rd rounder)]
Cook
Hyde [not sure what kinda offers he gets]
Lang (This is a tough one, if around 3yr X 5-6M per)
Datone Jones (2 yr 6M)
Tretter (If for back-up money, I move him up to #2)
Peppers (Wouldn’t mind a 1 yr 4M deal here).
Michael (Min deal w/ incentives)
Lacy 1 yr 3M; 2 year 4M tops; unless he can also back-up at nose tackle.
Barclay (If Min deal only)

RFA: Wouldn’t mind these guys back for min deal but RFA price tag is too much
Tripp
Elliot

Rest of ERFA:
Waters
Mathews
Sandlund
McCaffery
Goodley

I'm expecting a renegotiation of Rodgers and probably Clay both. I can see another 10 million in space created between them.

Also why are we assuming Guion gets released? The Packers had a couple of chances of making deep runs with Favre and MM was the seasons kept getting derailed when season ending injuries to DT stopped the Packers very good DL rotation and the DTS were wore out by the end of the game and could not stop anyone... Packers need depth at DL and losing Raji, Pennel and Guion within 12 months would leave the Packers thin on DL ... you know unless the sign some outside FAs (which doesn't happen too often) or Thompson is able to use some more high draft picks on the DL (and Thompson draft history on the DL is not pretty)

I agree that it is never too early to plan ahead. In addition, preparation is the key to good planning .

IMO, GB's GM needs to be looking and looking closely at the CB's that will be available in the 2017 NFL Draft as well as the Free Agent Market. The CB position is and will be GB's top need in the upcoming off season. I say trade for a high draft pick to get that Blue-Chip CB before the other teams that need one too or go get that Free Agent CB that can COVER the Antonio Browns and Dez Bryants and Odel Beckhams of the league.

Whatever it takes, get a damn CB !

I'm just hoping for a Super Bowl parade in Green Bay in a few weeks. Nothing else matters right now. After the parade I''ll have months to think about the 2017. Carry on.

The list is:
Malcolm Butler 26 RFA Pats
A.J. Bouye 25 UFA Tex
Morris Claiborne 25 UFA 'Boys
Captain Munnerlyn 28 UFA vickies
Prince Amukamara 27 UFA Jags

Your point is clairvoyant, we need better back-end help than what we have. When the Packers used Dime defense, 3 of the 6 were undrafted free agents.

Free agent. A.J. Bouye is just 25 and very under rated. Doubt the Texans let him leave though.
