I wanna know who told Peppers he's better suited in a 3 - 4. Something tells me he didn't come with that on his own.

Did he actually say he was better suited for the 34, or did he say he'd rather play in that?

he said that's the scheme he wants to play, and impication is that he thinks his talents would be better utilized in that scheme.

i can't imagine, why some of you would like to spend millions of bucks and a #9 ovr pick on a guy that has never played a snap at olb in a 3-4 and therefore has shown nothing at all. i'm not sure wether he can play olb or not, time will tell, but he is the same kind of a "black box" as every kid coming out of college.

my support of Ted Thompson would be starting to sour with this move. he should sign 3-4 proven guys instead. burnett + olshansky in a package would cost far less than peppers alone and the packers would still have a 9th overall selection.

Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

I see where you're coming from, but if Peppers were in this year's draft, he'd be talked about as a top-5 pick.

His measurables are crazy, and his production has been there for most of his career. He's not too old, he hasn't slowed down, and if Mike McCarthy isn't worried about Kampman making the switch to OLB, I'm sure they wouldn't be worried about Peppers' ability to switch, either.

I just read a USAToday article where Mike McCarthy said that 55-60% of the time, your defense is out of it's base package, and that Kamp would have his hand in the ground. That means the same would go for Pep, but on the other side of the line. I just can't believe people wouldn't love to see that kind of a pass rush from our defense.

Well, that doesn't make sense...

We know the coverage abilities and ability to play in space for Barnett, Hawk, and the rest of our defense (excluding the linemen).

The exception here with AK is that we already have him on the team and under contract, so why NOT give him a chance? I wouldn't bring in another questionable player like this through FA; we already have one.

And wasn't Charles Woodson a big name guy? And don't start the bullshit that he only came here for the money and we were the last team or whatever....we got him didn't we?

go.pack.go you answered your own question about the Woodson signing, but you can't deny that we have no experience on our defense with a 3-4. A 3-4 defense is different then a 4-3 and the players have to play differently. But let me guess your probably saying lets throw millions at Orkapo or Raji and they haven't played in a 3-4 either and hell they haven't even played in the pros.

Side note this is the contract the #9 pick got last year:

Signed a six-year, $23 million contract. The deal includes $15.6 million guaranteed. Another $2 million is available through incentives. 2009: $385,000, 2010: $810,000, 2011: $1.235 million, 2012: $1.66 million, 2013: $2 million (Voidable Year), 2014: Free Agent

I think the argument can be made that Peppers isn't a good get because he doesn't fit the 3-4 scheme. Now I think he's the type of player that can and will adapt to anything because of his talent, but you can argue he doesn't fit. I get that, but I don't agree at all with the arguement that signing him would put in jeopardy the long term situations of Greg Jennings, Nick Collins, and Aaron Kampman. The numbers won't add up.

As far as trading the 9th pick for Peppers. I think that's what it would take. I don't think it will happen.

The experience in the 3-4 arguement though has been applied and as another poster said nobody on the entire team has it, but you do have to factor in that GB isn't giving up anything to get our own players.

However, do you take a player such as Brian Orakpo whom has never played in the 3-4 defense either over Julius Peppers? 9th pick isn't cheap. It will cost money to get him signed. Probably not as much as it would cost to get Peppers, but still a hefty amount.

Orakpo has zero NFL experience and could be a bust. I don't think he will, but he could be.

Peppers you can get possibly 5 more productive seasons out of him. Sure he could flop too, but he's proven he can play in the NFL.

5 seasons with Aaron Rodgers and this offense I think could put this team over the top similar to what Reggie White did for Green Bay in the mid 90's.

Yeah one player doesn't win you a Super bowl, but GB isn't winning the Super Bowl in 96 without Reggie White either. Perhaps Aaron Rodgers and Julius Peppers could be the equivalent to Brett Favre and Reggie White.

Regardless we'll probably never know, but it would be the bold move that I think this regime needs to attempt.

I get that Ted Thompson doesn't want to overpay some FA who either 1. won't live out his contract, or 2. just doesn't have the horses to pull off a big pay day....which many ultimately don't.

But (I can't believe I'm saying this) I agree with DH, how long can we build for the future?!...

The "future" has to be NOW at SOME point, doesn't it?!

Even after typing that I'm saying to myself that I think this draft has to be the one that gets us to where we need to be, since that IS the way we're built. Hell, maybe Capers and the new 3-4 will make it all work (since I have NO worries about Aaron Rodgers and the offense), but damn, somethin's gotta give here sooner or later! Doesn't it?
