Twas the night before free agency, when all through the forums;
Not a creature wasnt stirring, not even thy trolls;
The FA checks were hung by the front door with care;
In hopes that a new savior would soon be there
Ahhh screw it..
Free Agency is a crap shoot, blind odds that they truly impact the team the way they are envisioned to. But regardless it is a quality tool to help build a contending team.
There is a happy medium of excess of some and the silence of the Packers in the past two years. But the stars need to align for true fits to take place, and with the record growth in cap the past two to three years, teams didnt have to purge themselves of quality players that often, thus contracting the pool of worthy players and making their compensation soar beyond value.
This year, the cap growth and heavy spending is catching up with those that cant manage the cap, thus the pool of quality players will be greater and compensation will be a little more reasonable.
So supply is up, meaning more value will be in those wandering the FA pool, thus it makes sense to strike if player fits are there. In other words, it is more of a buyers market this year than the past two (see baseball), making it more likely that we become active in shades of the 2006 offseason..
But back to point, we slaves of the forums will pick our favorites and become emotionally tied to that thinking.. logical or not. How does one truly free themselves from the chains of obsessed fan hood?
To me, this is the marked year for this group of Green Bay Packers, are they above or below the NFL curve? I have flamed my fires of frustration right after the season ended, made my evaluation and am coasting through this offseason hoping for little to no franchise drama.. the rest is just a bonus.
So say coined by our friend, Trom, sit back, relax and enjoy the free agency ride this season.
Now damn it, I want... :ramboface:
