Why Smokey? We don't have Gronk/Bennett here in Green Bay or anywhere near Jackson/Chmura. That only works when you have two very legit TE's. We may not even have one. I have high hopes for Cook here but he's never really done it anywhere before. It isn't the configuration alone...it's the players and the configuration. Justin Perillo and Richard Rodgers lined up at TE would make opposing DC's laugh out loud. Perhaps, Cook will emerge and someone will emerge with him. I like Perillo...he's not special, but he's reliable somewhat like RR. We need guys who make defenses have to defend them in special ways. Cook is the only one capable of that right now. Backman might become that. What happened to Mitchell Henry? Is he even a Packer? NEVER hear about that guy. He had some skills.
Our TE's ain't even great blockers. So, a two TE set to run isn't going to intimidate anyone either. TE is really a weak spot for us much like ILB was for years and S before that. We really need Cook to be what we think he can be.
Back to Adams, he is the very reason we were so terrible on offense last year. We took one of the best WR's in Jordy away from this O and tried replacing him with one of the very worst in the league. Had we used Janis/Abby or someone else more than we attempted to do with Adams our O would've been just fine. We saw a glimmer of that in AZ. Montgomery going down, too, was a killer blow as it forced more Adams being counted on and he wasn't ready and won't ever be. That 21 target performance of his will live in infamy. He's just terrible and a total millstone around our offensive neck. I was really hoping he would be cut but when I saw Janis broke his hand I just gulped because we're now far more likely to keep this bust on our roster.
EDIT: I'm with you Dakota! No bear poking. I just legitimately think Davante Adams is TRASH. ANYONE but Adams and I think statistical analysis shows that ANYONE would be an upgrade. Allison adds a dimension to the O. Adams actually subtracts.
Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."
