He probably wasn't going to contribute much as a WR anyway so the question becomes how does this impact our special teams. Could be the death knell for him as it will give someone else a chance to become the STs ace making Janis expendable. If we end up IRing him he'll likely stick around because of the cheap potential but if he goes into next year with another guy taking over his STs role it will mean he will have even more pressure to produce as a WR.

How long is he supposed to be out? A broken finger or bone in the hand usually takes about 2 months to heal no? So maybe he's a PUP candidate and they bring him back during the season?

Edit: I see it was posted in another thread that he can't be placed on the PUP, is it because he's been active in practice? Sucks because this seems like the ideal injury to put someone on the PUP, a couple month rather low risk injury before pre-season has really started shouldn't be enough to end someone's year.

But given Janis's bubble status and the depth at WR I imagine that's what they'll do (IR).

I think he's one of the best gunners in the NFL... and with the Packers lack of depth at CB (which normally play the gunner role) the Packers could use Janis at gunner to keep Randall/Rollins off of gunner duties. Heck with Janis injured and Goodson suspended, Randall and Rollins might be forced into gunner duties the first couple of weeks anyways... unless one of the UDFA can step up and do it well.

They can put him on IR and still bring him back after 6 weeks if they choose to. This year they changed the rule that requires teams to designate which IR player they expect to return. Now it can be any 1 player who has been on the IR for at least 6 weeks.

We are deep at WR......IF NO ONE ELSE GETS HURT!!!
I'm getting sick and tired of losing guys like this.
I know it happens with all teams, but it seems like an every year think now.
I hope Jordy will be 100%.

If he needs surgery then it could be a while.

Alonzo Harris broke his hand August 25 last year and made the 53.

If surgery is not required he'll be back this week with a cast, so he shouldn't miss any more practice time and I'd expect him to play in the PS games. He might be inactive for a week or 2 until he rehabs after cast is removed.

Actually, as a gunner, he could use his cast to knock the jammer silly 😂.

Can't they at least have him out there running routes? I mean, that's 70% of what he needs to work on.

Maybe they've just given up on him.

Ted and Co. really don't have to decide anything until final cuts.

Think about it, sounds like Janis was going to be pretty much like last year, playing on special teams being his main job.

the question will be is there someone we don't know of right now that can do the job as well as janis?

Yes or No, may decide the fate of Jeff janis at final cuts.

I don't know why people give Janis so much crap he's essentially exactly what you want out of a #5ish WR. He's good enough to make a few plays if he has to but he's a good KR and a fantastic gunner. Most WRs that low spend the game inactive or warming the bench. What good is it to use a roster spot on someone who may be a little better of a WR but they are gonna spend the whole game sitting down.

So the 7th round pick from Saginaw Valley freaking State hasn't developed into a starting #1 WR oh well. He has already surpassed any realistic expectations for someone with that background.
