He hasn't accomplished much as a WR, I even said he isn't very good at that but in the 2013/2014 drafts out of the 18 WRs drafted 6th round or later only 6 have more receiving yards (not even counting playoffs which would probably bump him up a little more). Then add in that he had the 4th highest KR average in the league last year out of players that had at least double digit number of returns and the fact that he's a very good gunner on special teams, I would certainly say most of the players drafted around where he was don't contribute to their teams as much as Janis does to ours.

I'm not saying realistically evaluating his talents is giving him crap I'm saying people are going extra hard on him if you compare to other WRs that have been #4/5/6 guy. It's not like he's had a bunch of games where they've just fed him snaps and he sucked, both games he's gotten decent amount of snaps he led the team in receiving. All of these people are all over him basically just based on beat reporter tweets. If that's not your perception of it then fine.

I'm not saying give him extra time to "get it" either. What I said was unless another WR on the roster is a much better actual receiver than him they better be able to replicate his ST contribution in order to replace him or else they won't bring as much to the team. I don't care if this player is a better catcher or that player runs better routes. What I care about is will this player be able to make a bigger impact on a game to game basis and make the team better. I'm all for letting Janis walk if we have enough of those guys. A slightly better WR (or a slightly better player at any position) who isn't great on specials is going to be inactive or sitting down all game, that IMO isn't better for the team.

As far as who beats him out I agree with that part. The first guy who outplays him on ST will probably beat him out for a roster spot as long as he is not a total liability at his position. I don't necessarily see Janis as a liability at WR I just don't see him as an asset either. He's just the last WR on the depth chart who happens to be a pretty darn good special teams player.

Agreed, Janis is the last WR on depth chart, but there is a plus after his name. He has the ability to abuse a team under the right circumstance: Bubble screens; lofting balls over midget CBs; hail marys; running a stop and go to occupy the deep safety on the patented Jordy deep post on play action 65 yard TD play; etc.

I'd really like to have a good reason to think very highly of something other than his guys potential but I just don't see it. For the record I'm pretty much in the same boat with all our other WRs besides Nelson and Cobb. Lots of potential to get excited about but not a ton of production to be able to say they have arrived, but in their defense, they are all pretty young yet (so is Janis) so there is still time for any of them. After 2 plus years though that time is running out. The clock is ticking for Abby and Adams as well but IMO both of them have showed me a bit more, not much but a bit, than Janis. Its the main reason I'm not really on the "we are stacked at WR bandwagon" We are stacked at young potential yes but potential only gets you so far.

dfosterf (13h) : Youtube

dfosterf (20h) : PFOW Out of our division would be a good thing imo
Zero2Cool (21h) : Jameson Williams is done at 24 years old? What? He's a WR, not QB. I'm missing something here haha
wpr (22h) : Tomorrow is almost here.
packerfanoutwest (22h) : would you want him if Pack needed a back up qb?
packerfanoutwest (22h) : JW is done......stick a fork in him

packerfanoutwest (23-Apr) : don't care
Zero2Cool (22-Apr) : Lions shopping Jameson Williams?
packerfanoutwest (22-Apr) : Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst says Green Bay’s roster can win, even without adding anyone in the draft.

wpr (19-Apr) : 5 days
beast (18-Apr) : 6 days
wpr (17-Apr) : 7 days
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
