In 2015, the Green Bay Packers defense played well enough to get them into the playoffs despite the struggles of the offense. With a developing secondary and the most depth they’ve had at defensive line in years, I believe the Packers defense is about to become one of the better units in the entire league. [...]

Bold prediction indeed. They have some pretty good players, but I'm not convinced they can get to the QB. Nor am I convinced that Dom has it in him.

Jayrone Elliott will make the Pro Bowl.

I like Jayrone and he made some great plays, but he needs to make the team before he can make the Pro Bowl.

It's more likely they will if our offense can stay on the field and give them more breaks!

BOLD PREDICTION:

The 2016 Packer D will lead the league in turnovers and sacks!

Don't care about ranking, they lead the league in those 2 categories The Packers will dominate !

The middle linebacking position to me is still unknown, but if we can get to the QB faster that should certainly help. Those quick passes over the middle to the slot receiver/TE was a glaring weakness last season. I was hoping for a bit more quickness than what we drafted, but am hopeful.

On paper we have a solid DB core. Hopefully they can stay healthy.

The big guys upfront look serviceable. Pennel misses the first 4 games. Hopefully our 1st round Rookie comes in and can play right away. Excited to see what Kenny Clark can bring to us.

What I hope happens is that our offense returns to top ten form and our defense plays opportunistic defense going for turnovers. I do not believe we have the linebackers it takes to have a top 5 defense.

Dean Lowry and Kenny Clark are unknowns in rookies. Pennel shows promise (and I have high hopes for him) but he hasn't played extended snaps in either of his first two seasons.

So outside of Mike Daniels, we don't really have anyone proven or with consistent track record of preforming well. It is quite possible that both Lowry and Clark don't do all that much in year 1 and we have a D-line leaving a lot to be desired. If the D-line holds up, I think our Defence will be good enough to make us legit contenders (assuming Aaron and our offense return to form).

I expect Capers can utilize Peppers, Datone and Nick Perry along the D-line occasionally (and he can probably get away with it especially in Nickel given their body types). Given depth at OLB, finding way to get most of Peppers, Elliot, Clay, Datone and Perry on the field together would seem like a good thing. Still, I'm not convinced that is enough for us to overcome a D-line that doesn't see one of Guion, Lowry or Clark step up and play well.

The defense performed about the same last year as Minnesotas and nobody have a problem with predicting them to have a top 5 D. We've got one of the top secondaries in the league and some good pass rushers. I don't know where they'll rank but I think we have a D good enough to win with which is fine with me.

If we get even 1 adequate player out of Pennell, Clark, Lowery, Ringo then were good and I don't think that's too big of an expectation. If you look at our line as Matthews/Daniels/Guion/Peppers (which it will be most of the time) it's really not a worry. Most of the time the OLB are on the line, just because they are standing up doesn't mean they aren't there taking on the OTs.

I agree, I'm worried about the Packers DL, which I feel like injuries to the DL killed the Packers DL rotation and ended up being big parts in what cost them two chance at possible Super Bowl wins in the 2000 decade (I want to say one was 2007, and I don't remember the other off the top of my head).

I'm also worried about depth at CB. Both DL and CB lost an important player (Raji/Hayward) as well as has a member of the depth suspended for the first four games (Pennel and Goodson). With those suspensions, I have NO IDEA, who's going to be the 5th DL or 5th CB for the first four games... which at minimum will hurt rotation/keeping guys fresh. But if injuries hit that could be SO much worse as really neither position has that much depth even after the suspensions are over.
