Cheesey, I am not doubting that Ted Thompson will do what he thinks is best for the team.

What I don't understand, is why so many people are ready to give him a pass if we have ANOTHER losing season. Winning is really all that matters.

David........if you read all my posts, you will see i agree with you. This coming season to me at least, will say alot whether Ted Thompson is the man for the job or not. This past season was SO messed up, Favre, new QB, defense that took a HUGE step backwards, that it wasn't a fair representation to me.
But this year........if the wheels fall off, i will be pulled to the "dark side!" LOL!
I believe in giving an honest shot.......but this is it for me. Ted Thompson has this year to prove himself to me, whether my faith in what he was doing was warrented or not.
ONLY time will tell either way.

Ted needs 10 years to reach the zenith of what he can accomplish.

Ted should be locked up... Right now... Paid what ever he wants, and be locked up.

This reminds me of all the Favre fanatics that would never criticize him when he threw interceptions. No matter what Favre did or said, it was always right.

People are so programmed to defend Ted Thompson, that we get nonsense like what RP just posted. And I have no doubt that RP was dead serious when he typed that.

There was even someone at another Packers website the other day, that claimed Ted Thompson has built a "dynasty" No joke.

Now we have RP wanting the Packers to sign him to a lifetime contract, when he has accomplished nothing. Amazing.

The real shame is that it's quite possible that the GM would be replaced for poor performance, but the young team he's built matures eventually to become the dynasty that he envisions. And who's coaching at the time will get all the credit and Thompson's name will be lost in the annals of Packer history.

What kind of change? I understand and believe in the system that is in place up to this point. Nobody in the league thinks we're a "poor" team or "failing". I don't want a free-for-all spending spree in Free Agency. I don't think we could draft all that much better (compared to other teams, not the ideal). I like McCarthy more than any H.C. in GB since Holmgren circa 1997. Our cap situation is good. Our roster has improved greatly in my opinion.

If you let the parity of the league and circumstance force you into going for some arbitrary "change" without any direction for improvement, you deserve the plunge you are going to take. If by some bizarre set of events we get rid of Ted Thompson in the next year or two, I guarantee the Packers go downhill.

"IronMan" wrote:

You would be ok with 1 winning season in 5 years?. That would be a success? And you are exaggerating when you say our roster has improved "greatly" We have got younger, but I'm not so sure about improved "greatly". Has our offensive/defensive lines improved since Thompson took over? No.

"MassPackersFan" wrote:

No, I wouldn't be happy with 1 winning season in 5 years, but that doesn't mean I would turn our jerseys purple and pink and trade all of our draft picks for a Brett Favre autographed Jager bottle either. The change has to make sense, and the move has to be an improvement. I don't see this team improving with a GM change. What is the new GM going to do? Talk more down-home and chew on a piece of straw during press conferences? Call in more big name aging FA's like Joe Johnson? Send us BACK into cap hell?

I have had an idea of how I wanted this team run for the past 3 years, and I have agreed with almost every move they've made. Does that mean I want them to keep doing the same thing? No, it doesn't, because strategy changes as your situation changes. But I'm waiting to see what moves they make this year before I assume they're not going to adapt their strategy to their current situation.

"IronMan" wrote:

So as long as you agree with most of his moves, the win-loss record doesn't matter. I'm glad you are not in charge.

"MassPackersFan" wrote:

As I am glad you are not, making terrible rash moves that bankrupt the team and screw our future because you panic about a disappointing season with a large handful of close losses.

The difference is that sometimes when Favre threw interceptions I had no f'ing clue what he was thinking, and a lot of the time it seemed like he just gave up on the play. I have rarely if ever wondered what the hell Thompson was thinking as GM.

It isn't "amazing". I don't know about the other supporters, but I'm assuming they like I have rationally dissected EVERYTHING Thompson has done and come to their own conclusions about how we grade his performance so far. It doesn't come down to us liking or disliking the guy and how he carries himself, or his "ego". And it doesn't come down to something as simplistic as the win-loss record of one season (because face it, 2008 is all anybody is pissed off about, there was steady improvement until then, INCLUDING a season where GB tied for the most regular season wins the Packers have ever had). If you just start chopping limbs off of your organization after one bad season, without any means to replace those pieces with something better, you are going nowhere but DOWN.

I am trying to figure out why so many Packer fans dislike Ted Thompson?

Didn't you ever meet someone, or hear someone speak, and instantly draw the conclusion that, "this guy is an arsehole"? Don't lie, we all have.

That about says it for me. I have a low tolerance for west coast people in general (sorry for the broad brush generalization), but he fact that he's from Seattle turned me off immediately. So has his performance, which apart from last year has been less than stellar. I respected Holmgren based on his performance, until the second SB and the year after.

I'll give the dude one more year, then the gloves come off.

Born in Texas, went to SMU and played in Houston.. so the west coast bias doesn't apply. Yes he was with Seattle for a number of years, but I worked in LA for 2 months, does that make me a pile of dung?

You respected Holmgren until he lost? Hard to please I think a little.

I liken the moves this offseason, younger talent at the coaching staff coupled with the grizzled veteran in Caper.. we are going to see a intense defense.. might not be a top 5, but I have a feeling we are going to tee off on people and play with a little attitude.

But the coaching staff isn't Ted deal, that is MM.

Ted talent acquisition is coming and it is pivotal that we have a banner offseason to right the ship a little. Not that we are lacking talent every where.. just a few key spots along the lines.

I am not overly happy with the regression seen last season, but can one really heap all that blame on Ted?

BTW.. People want to slam the guy and blame him for all the evils of the Packer franchise, but the same bang on the guy that he wants to garner all the praise.

It was kinda a perfect storm. Get a guy, who's great at drafting and sadly didn't know how to coach, and then bring in Vince who's a great coach but sadly doesn't know how to draft.
