He's younger, I still view Vernon as a bit of a head case. Not sure what Davis has left either.

It is a tough question. Looking to the future it is definitely Cook based on potential. If you ask the question who would you rather have on a one-year deal it might be Davis. I don't like the 1 year deal with Cook as it means we still have to look at a TE fairly high, but the guy will not get many reps and there is still the chance we sign Cook long term so we end up with a crowded TE corps with people being under-utilized.

Jared Cook is not as fast as Vernon Davis, but he is a better blocker per what the experts have stated. Also, Vernon Davis just got a ring didn't he? I'm guessing he's going to be less hungry for his 2nd ring than Cook is for his 1st ring.

The decision is an easy one, Jared Cook. He has more upside, younger, better player and I believe is more hungry to win and also has incentive to produce for a big contract. And there is also the fact that the Packers have him so I might be a little homer on it too.

Vernon Davis is done. I would rather have Richard Rodgers starting than waste a snap on Davis. The answer is Cook by default.

Why wasn't both an option? It's not like we're stacked at the position or anything.

I think we see from last year that even when you appear to be stacked, you are only a couple injuries away from the position being an immediate need again.
