Owen Daniels is 33 years old and apparently available. I don't get it. He would have been the Packers savior, yet the Super Bowl winning Broncos release him?

2015: $3 million signing bonus (guaranteed); $1.75 million salary. Total: $4.75 million.
2016: $3 million salary; $500,000 roster bonus (guaranteed on 5th day of league year). Total: $3.5 million.
2017: $3.5 million salary; $500,000 roster bonus (guaranteed on 5th day of league year). Total: $4 million
Total: Three years, $12.25 million.

If he's released, that means he won't cost us compensatory picks, right? That might be what made Ted hesitate last year.

I don't get why everybody is fascinated with this guy. He's slower than Richard Rodgers.

So people want a tightend that can stretch the field and make plays after the catch.... Owen Daniels is not that guy....

As I have said in previous post, I still don't think it would have been enough to get the Packers to the Super Bowl, but he would have helped. That help might not have been worth the salary, though.

EDIT: Moreover, the Bronco's are likely in a rebuilding/retooling mode again now due to having some cap issues and losing some players (and uncertainly at QB). What's the point in keeping a decent aging TE around? In their context, it's better to go with cheaper youth. The same could certainly be said for the Packers this season, as well.

You are absolutely right that there's no reason for Broncos to keep Owen Daniels due to his age/salary and the fact they have to bring in a new quarterback. Even if they re-sign Brock Osweiller (however you spell that), it'd be best to get a younger tight end with whom he can grow with. I think if Peyton Manning stayed on board one more season, Owen Daniels sees 2016 with the Broncos.

As I have said before, Packers thought Richard Rodgers would take good leap from 1 to 2 and also had Andrew Quarless. Additionally, Owen Daniels said himself if he hadn't failed his physical with the Packers, he'd have signed with them.

The question (better specify that this is MY question otherwise someone will be a dickhead and say no one is asking --- actually some would consider me no one anyway! haha) now is ... do the Packers target Daniels??

And if that missing piece had been obtained, the Packers offense would have been a lot more efficient ... a lot more as in efficient enough to get to the Super Bowl.

Stupid crap, I told ya, but it was stated a few times.

It's understandable why he wasn't signed given the expensive contract he received, but he still could have helped. Now that he's another year older, I'm not so sure. He would still easily be the Packers 2nd best tight end, but that depends on what happens in the draft.

TheKanataThrilla (2h) : Hope to see everyone in the Chat tonight!!! Go Pack Go!!!
TheKanataThrilla (2h) : Jeanty would be a great pick-up for the Bears. I see Warren mocked to them as well who I think would be a great selection.
Zero2Cool (3h) : GameDay Chat is open. Posting bits an tids in there.
Zero2Cool (3h) : Excellent Source: The Bears have a deal in place to move up to 5 if Jeanty is there.

dfosterf (23-Apr) : PFOW Out of our division would be a good thing imo
Zero2Cool (23-Apr) : Jameson Williams is done at 24 years old? What? He's a WR, not QB. I'm missing something here haha
wpr (23-Apr) : Tomorrow is almost here.
packerfanoutwest (23-Apr) : would you want him if Pack needed a back up qb?
packerfanoutwest (23-Apr) : JW is done......stick a fork in him
Zero2Cool (23-Apr) : You should. He goes to AFC that helps Packers.
packerfanoutwest (23-Apr) : don't care
Zero2Cool (22-Apr) : Lions shopping Jameson Williams?
packerfanoutwest (22-Apr) : Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst says Green Bay’s roster can win, even without adding anyone in the draft.

Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
