Kiper doesn't see inside linebacker as need for Packers, believes in Jake Ryan

I think Ryan can get it done. Barrington too. If there's a super stud OLB, I'd grab him. In fact if there's a game changer at LT, RB, TE I might even go there too.

But this bullshit with ILBs has gone on long enough. It'd be nice to solidify that position.

One injury to Ryan or Barrington and the Packers are back to playing Clay Matthews inside. That is unacceptable. The position needs to be solidified through the draft or free agency.

I'm sort of in agreement. The guys we have can play the run, and I think we are going to see less ILB on passing downs in favor of Safeties that can cover better.

The problem I see with that is on 3rd and 2 or 3 do you play an LB or S. Either way the offense can audible out. So I still would like to see a more capable LB. As you said on passing downs playing a S should work, but I would trade up if necessary to get an LB that could stay in.

I like Ryan. I do. I think he's got much more upside potential than the alternatives we've seen in recent years.

But the Packers also need substantial improvement at the ILB position from last year.

And I hate being satisfied with "further development of potential of what we've got.

I don't think the need is such that Ted Thompson should stretch for an ILB, and given this year's limited crop, that means its unlikely that the Packers will have a quality-for-draft-position ILB available when they're on the clock.

But it is still a need.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Name to look out for = Tahir Whitehead. He was underutilized in Detroit. Would be good depth/potential starter.
