Puzzled as to why you shot this dig my way? I don't get why Mike McCarthy should get treated differently a full year after his brother passed? It's an awful thing and I'm sorry anyone has to go through things like that but if it was such a thing that we should be lowering our standards for him because of it then he should've stepped down or away for at least a year and given Winston the job like he did for the probowl.
Joe Philbin had a son commit suicide and left here and got a HC gig in Miami. Nobody was going to expect less of him in Year 1 because his son committed suicide. Philbin didn't have to take that job...he could've just stayed out of coaching until he felt ready. He didn't much in the same way Mike McCarthy didn't feel the need to step away. Did that have a thing to do with the offseason shakeup? I would hope not but perhaps.
This next year has to be it. If we don't get to the show for 6 straight seasons and only once NFC Championship, I think it's more than crystal clear it's time to go another direction. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see Ted Thompson retire at the end of this season if the team fails again. If that happens, it'll probably be a package deal. We'll lose both Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy together. We'll have a 32 year old Jordy and a 36 year old Aaron by then.
Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."
