Their approach is really tailored to the way they go about their business, starting with their head coach. I don’t know what the problem with skeet shooting is; I thought that was probably one of the best events we’ve ever had here.

Just the interaction with the policemen and the players was excellent. You were literally handed a gun, pulled the trigger and handed it back to the police officer. That part of it was in place for the safety, but it was really a neat day. We’ve tried some differnet things, and by far it was our best group dynamic/team building event that we had. I actually got a chuckle out of hearing someone else worried about us taking our team skeet shooting.

But to answer your question, I don’t really get caught up in that stuff. I don’t really worry about what other people do. I don’t pay much attention to their clips. Like every team, you have media clips put on your desk every day, and I don’t really pay (attention to) mine. I worry about who’s playing for them and how they’re playing and what we need to do to beat them.

We have a lot of confidence in the way we run our program, and we’re always trying to make it better. And I think skeet shooting is going to be the difference in us getting back to the Super Bowl. So there.

I remember when Schwartz said this. He is such a pompous ass...

I'd imagine if he gave his team a day off that there would be one less DUI on that team?

Proper and jokingly response from MM.

comments from Kevin McCauley at Acme Packing Company

Some people, including the writer of the above-linked Detroit News article, think it's a shot at the Lions' off-the-field disciplinary problems. Personally, I think he's just making fun of Schwartz for being entirely too serious and intense all the time.

I'd give you more of my opinion on Schwartz, but I fear that he'd come to my house and punch me in the face.

I doubt either coach is losing sleep over the matter.

I don't necessarily belive that skeet shooting or other group "leisure" activities help the team play better football, but (luckily for the Packers and fans) what I think doesn't matter. I'll trust McCarthy as he has brought his team to the SB before. I can appreciate Jim Scwartz's comments for the purpose of instilling a good work ethic in his players and enamoring them with their hometown, but I don't think he thought through how to do it before he made the comments.

Personally, I think it's cool that McCarthy and the Packers organization aren't "all work and no play" people. I would love to work at a place where people "at the top" truly recognize the value of employees "doing things together" this way. People who aren't so hung up on the need to "get business done before yesterday", people who aren't hung up on connecting everything to the customer or to corporate goals/mission/bottom line/etc. People who recognize that "life" and "work" and "organization" are not synonyms, and should not be made so just because a money payment for labor services is required.

So, eff you, Jim S. And bravo, Mike McC.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
