With Rouse inconsistent and injured, the Packers had to move Woodson to strong safety for three games.

If Bigby doesn't come back to form in 2009, the Packers may consider Woodson for the position, although it seems they would rather keep him at cornerback.

"I would say his natural position is definitely corner, and I think he's an excellent nickel player in sub defenses, because he has the ability to get his hands on the receiver," McCarthy said of Woodson. "He's an excellent bump-and-run player, plays a lot of instincts. I think he's definitely built for corner. I think he's played well at safety for us."

Also on the roster at safety is Charlie Peprah, who was a fifth-round pick of the New York Giants in 2006 and picked up on waivers at the end of training camp that year.

Jarrett Bush also saw time at safety. Bush was a nickel back in 2007 but was beaten out for that spot by Tramon Williams in 2008. Bush did not play regularly as a cornerback and struggled at times in 2007 where injuries forced him into the lineup. His future may be at safety if he's going to remain in Green Bay.

I find this part pretty interesting.

Safety seems to be the big overlooked position on here. I mean, everyone wants someone on the O-line, D-line and OLB, but Atari had a horrible year, Woodson shouldn't move to safety and If he did, how long will he keep playing, anyway and Bush.... I'd rather not see him on the field on defense.

Rouse obviously still has potential, but we have to guys at the SS spot who a big question marks atm. Maybe bring in a veteran back-up to get into the rotation and get some stability at the SS position when needed?

We could also get William Moore in the 2nd round.

Getting a safety is the last thing we should do before having a new OT, NT, 3-4 DE and 3-4 OLB. Check warhawk's thread for clarification if interested in how that could happen.

I agree, that's pretty much the order I've posted a 100 times in the draft section, getting a NT first in Raji or ofcourse one of the good OTs if they fall all the way down to 9th. OLB, I don't know. We have alot of good players, so I'd prefer to go with a FA. Also, someone who isn't a one-trick pony, because I think we have that one in Kampman already. A 3-4 DE would be ok aswell, we have one in Jenkins and I think Jolly and/or Pickett could rotate in a DE position aswell.

I wouldn't want to draft another safety anyway, the problem we're already having there is inconsistency and inexperience. I'd prefer to go with a veteran. Not a big name or anything, just a decent player that has played alot of football, brining some stability to the position and not having to move Woodson again if we get stuck with even more injurys.

TT should open up the check book and get himself a savior in Brian Dawkins. That guy would look great in green and gold and take any concern away from that position.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

undue criticism on bigby in my opinion. he was hurt. instead of hoping we get a new safety, i'm hoping our current safeties can stay healthy.

I'd much rather have Dawkins signed and draft a DE/DT then signing Peppers and drafting Safety... but I'd take any of them in a heartbeat.

What's the chances we get Dawkins and Peppers and draft o-line ... would that be too perfect?

Yeah, first game of the season he has a game clinching INT. I think we're alright at safety. Maybe get another young guy to back the position up along with Rouse.

I'm not critizising him one bit. I love the guy and I'm not calling for a big-name safety to come here.

On the other hand though, he was injured for more than half the season and he has had just one good season in 4 years. Aaron Rouse and Peprah aren't the guys I want to rely on for the entire season if something does go wrong and Bigby goes down or plays crappy.

I just want them to get a good veteran in so we won't have to move personel around again to get an average starting defense. Nothing fancy, no high priced FAs, just a solid player that has done ok in the past and can step in if something does go wrong.

This is why you will never be a GM. We are not a Safety away from the Super Bowl or a anything fancy. You don't open the checkbook and spend hard on a guy who's at the end of his career to play on a team that won six games the previous year. If we were only a safety depth away from being a true contender, I'd be all for it, but we're not only ONE player away. We are several players away.
