A look at some of the many Wide Receivers selected after Davante Adams in the 2014 draft...

We love to shower the love to Uncle Teddy around here but I really think he shit the bed here. Davante is a turd this season and I hope he can find a way to turn it around. Davante has a MVP quarterback throwing him passes and could really shine with the receiver situation in Titletown. This certainly hasn't happened.

Uncle Teddy needs to up his game also. As of now this pick is looking like a Flop.

It's been clear to me that Thompson's drafting acumen has been highly overrated by a lot of Packers fans over the years.
It doesn't start and end with Davante Adams.

Jordy Nelson had more drops in his 2nd NFL season than Davante Adams. (according to Paul Imig) No, this isn't saying he's going to be Jordy great, just that it's not the end of the world for a WR to be crap in his second season.

Kind of crazy looking at the drops this season. Demarious Thomas (10 hasn't played tonight yet), Mike Evans (10), Amari Cooper (10) and Brandon Marshall (9) all have more drops than Adams (6). The difference is those guys MAKE plays that allow fans to forget those drops. Adams has not this season.

Allen Robinson has Allen Hurns
John Brown has Michael Floyd and Larry Fitzgerald
Martavis Bryant has Antonio Brown
Donte Moncrief has T.Y. Hilton

There's a theme here and it's these guys all have someone else that defenses have to focus on. The only one who is is the top threat that defenses have to focus on is Jarvis Landry.

Adams would look a whole lot better with Jordy Nelson and Ty Montgomery on the field too.

James Jones and Jordy Nelson both went through seasons where they had a ton of drops. Go back and watch Jordy in the SB.

In fact, early in his career I used to call DD "Donald Drivekiller," because of his predilection for dropping the ball on third down.

Add Finley to the list of guys who dropped alot of balls.

Davante will work through it. He'll be fine.

It's not the drops with Davante that bother me, it's that he's looking for the flag before the ball once things get a bit nippy. That's unacceptable. Your primary job as a WR is to catch the ball. If it's a big play, sure.

That catch he has against Peterson with Aaron throwing against his body was a catch and could've given him the confidence to play a better game.

Maybe he can start outside one day, but not now. Jordy Nelson makes Cobb, Adams... everybody better. As of right now while Cobb is our top option, we don't have a legitimate #1 on this team.

Maybe instead of defense (unless there's a bluechip ILB on the board), we look for dynamic talent on the offensive side. I mean we won't get Calvin Johnson, but we can at least look for somebody.

Not to excuse Davante's poor performance but saying he has an MVP qb throwing to him is a bit disingenuous too considering Rodgers isn't throwing these guys anywhere near MVP level passes this year. There have been plenty of times this year Davante has been open and Rodgers has missed him badly, MVP Rodgers would have made those throws in his sleep.

As much as we'd all like it, you can't hit on all of your draft picks and continually replenish starting quality talent at all positions of major importance, much less with the injury issues we've had this season. Although I will admit that no apparent solid hits on any #1 or #2-quality WRs (except maybe Montgomery which is extremely premature) in several years has exacerbated the impact that losing Jordy has.

LT, TE, OLB. Go from there.

I'm not a Ted Thompson fan, but he has picked some good players (ex: Clinton-Dix).

IMO, the best way to build a winning team begins with the OL/DL players. They are the core of every team. Either by the draft or through trades, or with free agents. Being stubborn and unwilling to take advantage every option is a poor strategy.

Next, carefully build other positions as needed. Taking the best player available is not always the best way to go. Taking the best player available at positions that need improving makes better sense. If you need a WR, then don't wait until the 3rd or 4th round and then pick some player that you "believe" you can develop. Get the best WR available from the best College programs, IMO, players that shine against the very best competition is the way to go. Ball State or Slippery Rock are not where you find the best talent.

The Packer's will need to improve before next season. I've yet to decide where, IMO, the greatest need will be for next season. Players returning from injuries as well as who they will be loosing to free agency will figure into the final analysis.

[cheers]

dfosterf (25-Jul) : Meathead "journalists" skip this, concentrating on operational revenue when convenient. They switch when net revenue is more favorable.
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Resulting in an actual drop of net revenue of 12.5%. She is from Minnesota. Just sayin'
