Since the middle of the field is a mess on D anyway, it might be time to experiment with an extra safety on the field. I mentioned it a while back, and for the same reason. If you have a quick guy in the middle of the field, you can do a lot to combat the problem. You have a guy that can cover, play run D, and blitz. If it is within the 5 yards, he can disrupt the route and ruin the play before it can develop. We used to see similar with Woodson and it seemed to work, so why not now?
The other side of the coin - do we have the right guy to make this work? If Hyde were better in coverage I would say yes. Either way - I don't see any reason not to try this for a few plays and see what happens. If we see a huge lead in Detroit, it would be an opportunity to try a few new ideas.
