This is all a reaction to McCartyâs âgarbageâ statement. If you criticize a âmedia slutâ [the word âjournalistâ is on the verge of being removed from the dictionary]; you will be attacked. They often act like a little verbal mafia.
I think McGuinnâs statement is an admission of guilt that Cohenâs article was purposefully designed to misinform. If you did a 100% honest and balanced report; why would you ever consider Davis coming in your proximity was some sort of intimidation? Clearly, Cohen pissing down his leg and McGuinâs sur-attack was a reaction to their consciousness that they did something worthy of getting their a$$ beat. Ya know like when they unfairly criticized the high school football team in the school rag and received golden swirlies for their dishonesty.
The âHolier than thouâ comment shows McGuin is not acting with balanced scholarship; but resorting to ad hominem attack. Moreover, itâs a complete misunderstanding of what the Packers have accomplished. Itâs not about putting together a group of choir boys; itâs about successfully evaluating character as well as football talent and having a program in place to teach these kids how to become men and treat their game as a professional.
Itâs a violent game and choir boys need not apply [unless a kicker]. Give a 20-22 YO kid, whoâs has been fawned over since he was 16, hundreds of thousands to millions of $$ and they are going to make bad choices. Exasperating the potential for the quantity and quality of mistake is that many kids did not have solid upbringings; face a lot of temptations; and have a dearth of quality character peers. So you donât judge a programs by the shear # of arrests; because people only get arrested for every 1000 criminal things they do; a few arrests or non arrests can skew the #s.
These kids will screw up; probably 80-90% to differing degrees. The GB program provides support, mentoring, training and follow-up; before, during and after these kids screw-up; thus keeping these kids on a path to manhood. Maybe the most important thing is that they keep these kids from undermining the program [so some are cut loose] ...this is what separates GB from other franchises.
McGuin's article is garbage too đ
