Has the financial terms of the 1 year contract been released? I can't seem to find it.

Note that if the 53 roster spot would go to an UDFA that cap hit would be $435. So Jones is eating into our cap for 150K or less if its not an UDFA cut.

Who gets cut? My guess Harris. Ted is so friggen smart: Instead of leaving the 53 spot open and subjecting Crockett and Harris to waivers at the same time, he cut one to see if he'd make PS; now that he has, it's Harris' turn.

I wouldn't think its Janis; but dont be shocked if it is. On the 2nd play of NO game, he lined up on the wrong side of field. Now I believe these plays were scripted and, if so, how could this guy be so dumb or inattentive to not remember where he is to line-up on the SECOND PLAY.

Signing Jones was a must!

Given the situation at WR this makes sense. It works out well that we could see a veteran sign that is familiar with our offense - and probably at a low cost. IMO Ted made the right decision. Time to get him up to speed and ready for Chicago!

If you are correct, then there's no reason to condemn the signing on a financial basis. The question is STILL who gets cut. I don't follow your logic about Harris and Crockett. Contrary to what I've read a couple of places, we don't seem to have a roster vacancy now, so how would cutting Harris NOT leave the Packers without both him and Crockett on the 53 anyway? It seems like you're just trying to rationalize the inexplicable keeping of Harris and cutting of Crockett. All I can say is it damn well better not be one of the other WRs we throw away to sign this retread. NO, signing Jones was NOT a must. I will be rooting for him as with any Packer, but I'd much rather we just passed on him.

Lets assume what Barfarn is saying is true about Janis' lining up on the wrong side of the field. This isn't the first time we've heard about his mental prep/assignments leaving much to be desired. Monty himself admitted there's a learning curve coming up to the NFL. This is a talent rich/experience poor receiver group.

Some people have said this will hinder development but I can't imagine the Packers have less than 5 active on game day, which means in all likelihood 2/3 of Janis, Monty, or White are all playing. Inevitably one of Jones/RC/Adams will get hurt at some point in which case all 3 of the newbies are active. JJ is an inexpensive patch and bridge to the future. IMO, the Packers are a better team for the next 5 months with him on the roster.

I think Barfarn is making an educated guess here. The numbers he's giving are the vet minimum sallary numbers, which has a different application to the cap due to CBA rules (why the cap hit is lower). This is a pretty safe assumption as it's what he signed with the Giants, it's doubtful he would demand/the Packers would pay him more.

[blushing-teehee, teehee] Thanks gbguy; but no GMs confide in me; but if they did I wouldn’t tell ya. Oh wait, that sounds like Ted Thompson might have told me to say if he did confide in me; but no it was just a product of my warped sense of humor. LOL [or did Ted Thompson tell me to say that too?]

It would have been easier if you identified a specific fact of which you are concerned instead of using nonsensical hyperbole like "ALWAYS;" perhaps we should explore my comments in the subject post.

“Deal not done yet”: please read the CBA and NFL rules for how a contract is executed and you'll learn it is impossible that Jones' deal is done. Also, if the deal was done, then the Pack would be violating the rules w/ 54 on roster, didn’t think Ted Thompson would do that. And when the deal is signed, do ya think it will be kept a secret for only “us insiders” to know and not tell anyone?

on 870K, 1 year: Do you think there's any other possibility? I discussed this at length in another thread. Okay, they may give him a 20K SB, but why? Would make no sense, it'd be fiscally irresponsible.

“Done this week [as opposed to after this week, LOL]:” I mused some of the variables over this issue in response to a Z2C post in another thread. And Z2C has valid points, he might be right, we’ll see.

“585K cap hit...eating up 150K of available cap:” see the CBA under vet discount [or words of similar import] and then apply remedial math.

"my guess Harris:" doesn't sound there is the slightest implication of inside info; but that would be the beauty of it. Ted Thompson could have told me to get this info out there; but please dont say “Ted told me so.”

“I think the plays are scripted:” ...see above under Harris.

“Don’t be surprised if Janis gets cut:” see above under Harris

“Janis lined up on wrong side:” just WATCH THE GAME. Janis lines up right as they break the huddle, almost immediately Tolzein and Q are waiving Janis to the other side. I guess Tolzein and Q could have been wrong; or maybe it’s just part of a brilliant scripted plan to make Janis look like a moron; then on one play about week 8 all the coaches and players will be yelling at Janis that he lined up in wrong spot and just when the CB lets his guard down...Bamm, hit Janis for a 5 yard slant.

Oh, I did say in another thread I bought a ticket for Jones and mentioned the airline and flight time...LOL. Ted Thompson yelled at me for that one, 1265 is not reimbursing now for the ticket 'cause I broke the "inside info" here and they had to put him on a different flight [Note: For the record and in FULL DISCLOSURE: I was kidding about the ticket and what I just said].

Tex, I’m shocked, the Harris cut idea is nothing more than me stealing your idea. Wasn’t it you who said, weeks ago, with Monty and Cobb we only need 2 RBs since Neal, Crockett and Harris are not worthy of a roster spot?

I think Harris is the 53rd most talented guy on roster as it sits; he’s the guy who should be the first to go; with Crockett on PS and Neal available if one arm- drop passes in game-Harris gets cut and doesn’t make PS, we’ll be okay.

If the roster spot is garnered from the receiver group; there’s 2 choices: Cut Janis or place the real Cobb on IR-DTR. Or if I’m wrong on my evaluation of White; they may cut him thinking he’ll make PS.

My predictions of carrying 9 OL; 11 DBs was based on my player evaluations; Ted Thompson keeps the most talented guys and ya can only dress 46 each week anyways. Taylor, Walker, Goodson and Banjo aren’t going anywhere; unless by trade or injuries exceed the 7 inactives and/or necessitate a person be added to one of the smaller numbered position groups.

Backman actually might be the 53rd most talented and Perillo is the 3rd best TE on this team and something we’d need if injury occurs or Q gets suspended. I forgot how aggressive Ted Thompson can be: I didn’t think Perillo would be claimed; but didn’t think that was a chance Ted Thompson would take. I feared Backman would be claimed, that guy has upside. As usual, Ted Thompson did the right thing, He keeps Kuhn and his leadership, who can play TE in a pinch until Perillo can be activated and we don’t lose Backman, who would have been gone given the claiming of Henry [that surprised me, gotta relook at his play to see what I missed, bet Denver’s just trying to scout us].

So that’s why I see Harris as the best option for cutting when Jones is signed. And note: Abby and Vaughters all safe and Pinkard will be too.

Zero2Cool (9h) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (9h) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (11h) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (12h) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job

Zero2Cool (13h) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (13h) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (13h) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (14h) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (14h) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (14h) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (14h) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (14h) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21-Jan) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Ben going to Bears. He'll be out in 3 years.
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : what's so funny?
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Bears are finalizing a deal to hire Ben Johnson as their head coach. (via @tompelissero )
