I understand that members have topics that they want to have discussed here in the forum, but sometimes it seems like few can focus on the same topic. This topic should be the focus at this time. Discussing the 53 man roster should be filled with post, but this player or that player are getting their own threads and members are wandering around unfocused.

I'd like to read about who. why, and what the 53 man roster should look like. Nothing can be done about Jordy Nelson's injury or the inflation of footballs here. The roster will be set tomorrow!

QUARTERBACK (3): Rodgers; Tolzien; Hundley.

The dream of Hundley on PS has been screwed up by Hundley’s talent. In 2016, The Pack, after some rework of CBA will be placing Hundley on CR dash AR minus 1 [Cryogenic Reserve with a designation to be thawed the year b4 AR retires].

RUNNING BACK (4): Lacy; Starks; Neal; Ripkowski.

Both Harris and Crockett have more upside; but today Neal is more assignment sure, a better blocker and has looked good as a KOR.

RECEIVER (5): Cobb; Adams; Montgomery; Janis; White.

TIGHT END (3): Rodgers; Quarless; Perillo.

Assignment sure and solid STer Perillo makes it.

OFFENSIVE LINE (7): Bakhtiari; Bulaga; Linsley; Lang; Sitton; Barclay; Tretter.

Tretter= stud; Barclay is gaining confidence in the knee and he’s a guy that will improve incrementally over the next few years. In a few weeks, he’ll be a solid swing tackle. If cut, we’ll save about $1M in cap; but lose on a comp pick in 2017.

DEFENSIVE LINE (5): Daniels; Raji; Pennel; Boyd; Gaston.

LINEBACKER (9): Matthews; Barrington; Peppers; Neal; Perry; Palmer; Mulumba; Elliott; Ryan.

CORNERBACK (5): Shields; Hayward; Randall; Rollins; Gunter

SAFETY (5): Burnett; Dix; Hyde; Richardson; Banjo

Banjo has been playing on 5 ST units, i think well; had several offers last year while on PS; he will NOT clear waivers. 2 years ago a marginal safety; but after being in system i think he'd be serviceable if injuries struck the group. I think he's ahead of Richardson as a true safety; though they have more gimmick packages for Sean.

SPECIALIST (3): Crosby, K; Masthay, P; Goode, LS

Leaves 4 ad hoc spots to filled based on who is best regardless of position with consideration of if a guy can clear waivers and make the PS.

1. Taylor is clearly the better than Walker; Walker has more upside and is the better practice player, I can’t decide nor do I want Seattle to get one of these guys.
2. If one of Taylor or Walker can’t be traded for considerations, a conditional 7th or swap, I think we keep both.
3. Meech Glass Goodson or a LB-10 [Bradford, Thomas or Vaughters] are the next tough choice; the ILbs are easier to replace than Goodson; so I say Goodson unless he is seriously hurt.
4. 6th WR not on roster or 2nd Punter or will not be filled, week 1.

Pile of guys for PS: Kuhn [assistant coach-this one hurts], Blanchard, Crockett, Harris, Abberderis, Pinkard, Backman, Henry, Ringo, Thornton, Bradford, Thomas, Vaughters, Rasco, TGW, Gerhardt, Rotherram

* Jones replaces Gaston after week 1 or takes unfilled 53 rd roster spot .
*Guion’s roster spot will be opened by injury or Gaston.

Most or all of the guys you would place on the practice squad, of course, would never make it there, and it would be a damn shame to lose them in favor of lesser players - Perry and Perillo for example. Walker clearly has outperformed all other than the starting 5 O Linemen and Tretter.

In short, I like mine a lot more than yours. If Goodson can be IRed, that opens up a spot for somebody - a 4th RB or I wouldn't even rule out a 7th WR - C, J, Ad, M, Ab, W, and Pinkard, or maybe Vaughters or Thomas.

Perry and Perillo help NOW, we're tryin' to win a SB; PLUS they have upside: Perillo will be Jacob Tamme and wait 'til ya see the 5-6th round sup pick in 2017 we get for Perry.

Walker would be grabbed on a 53, Taylor has played slightly better than him in game situations; walker has more upside and it's unfair to compare to Taylor when Walker was moved all around. But Taylor proved, he can play in the NFL in his Saints debut, did great after a shaky start. If Taylor practiced w/ 1st unit that following week and played the next game, you'd see why Lang got his about to be Wally Pipped behind healthy.

Barclay's solid play against Barwin and Graham is something that Walker has ZERO chance of doing at this stage of his career.

I thought The Packers had to play 2 short the 1st week then 1 short the next 2.
Seeing they can have a full 53 after today, 6 wr's is a possibility.

Abby or Pinkard will end up on PS tomorrow.

Then it just matters what injuries occur The 1st 3 weeks as to who is cut and who stays.

53 man roster won't be completed til after week 3.

Pennel and Gaston perform well is there a possibility that Jones or Guion get cut?

I was addicted to The Hokey Pokey, but I turned myself around!

I don’t think Jones will be cut, he’s still an ascending player and will cost $1M to cut. Only way is if he unless becomes a problem like saying, “FU guys I’ll smoke pot anytime I want.” Though this is unlikely ‘cause his supply was confiscated by Starke County Fl. deputies...LOL

If Guion is cut, we save 2.75M in cap; though at the moment we only have to pay 13/16th of that salary.

Tex mused about Raji being cut when Guion gets back; but if a vested vet [4 years] is on roster after week 1 his salary is guaranteed; if signed after week 1, a team only has to pay 1/16 of salary for each game player is on roster.. If the plan is to cut Raji after week 3 they’ll do it today so they are not on the hook for 1.75M. But like Tex, I don’t think Raji will be cut.

Pennell playing great and Gaston looking worthy of a roster spot, Guion may be cut. And it may be today. Question is: if Gioun is on the suspended list week 1, is his full 2.75M guaranteed? If yes, then they may cut Guion today and resign him in 3 weeks. And they may try to sign him for less than 172K per game. I doubt this will happen because in agreeing to pay 2.75M, GB thinks others wanted his services; but no one may want his services today, given that he has missed camp, the 3 game suspension is a certainty and guys like Taylor, Dockett and Nix out there.

It won't be long now until we find out for sure.

I think you guys are way too optimistic in your assessment of the chances of keeping Abbrederis and Pinkard, as well as to a varying degree, other good players who may be cut - Vaughters, etc.

As for Guion, look at how little he has played and with what group - basically the lowest back ups. If it comes down to him or Gaston, or him and a 6th receiver or quality DB, I certainly hope Guion hits the road with what's left of his stash. I think they're just keeping him around through the suspension in case somebody gets hurt.
