By and large, Hayward has managed to stay on the field since the first practice July 30. It's a considerable accomplishment in light of his surgery after last season to correct a stress fracture in his foot.

These foot injuries freak me out a little.

Hayward's best moments have come from the slot as a nickel back. The Packers insisted he would be fine outside, but in truth he has been just mediocre.

Rodney wrote on this theme  as well.

Anyway, hope he hasn't lost it.

Because Hayward's performance in the camp one-on-ones has been blah as well, one wonders if all the hamstring pulls and the foot injury have robbed him of a measure of speed that, as a non-burner, he couldn't afford to lose.

This sounds ominous:

Depending on the severity of nickel back Micah Hyde's neck injury, there might be a shuffling of personnel for the opener.

So does this little nugget:

And Gunter continues to play faster than he timed and with a no-nonsense attitude that some teammates should try to emulate.

On the other hand it looks like Demetri Goodson is finally making some plays.

After missing two games, Demetri Goodson all but locked up the No. 6 berth at cornerback with tight coverage and hard-nosed tackling.

DB will sort itself out as the year goes on. It won't be something set in stone entering the season.

The DBs hopefully should gain some confidence in their first game playing against Jay Cutler 😝

I've said it many times in this forum and I've been ridiculed, and with reason 😁. I still hope to be wrong because we need Hayward but from the film I've seen I still have the same conclusion: "He is afraid of contact".

In the Philly game there were at least 2 plays were he saw somebody carrying the ball and run away from the carrier instead of towards him, this is perplexing.

Hayward is good covering short yardage situations because he likes to try to intercept and/or deflect balls but he has a lot of trouble with long routes this is because he peeks at the backfield to anticipate the play he is not very good running along a receiver and timing the arrival of the ball.

If you watch film you will see most of his interceptions were just lucky, he caught a lot of deflected balls. This lead to an overhype that got me worried.

In short I still think Hayward is a 3rd down back who is not good outside and is afraid of contact.
You can laugh at me again because I deserve it and I seriously want to be wrong and pay you all a round after the season.

I don't know, and ultimately, it doesn't really matter. What matters is the product he puts on the field and that product has been average for a long time now, when he's even able to be on the field.

I'm surprised he was basically 'anointed" a starting position. Very overrated player, imo, who will never be a great cornerback. He can still be good though, but the Packers will ultimately need a better starter on the outside.

Before what I've seen in the preseason games, I would have had basically the same opinion about Hayward. However, I would disagree that he has not been impressive. What I've seen for the most part is good close man coverage from his outside Corner position.

Gunter has been extremely impressive; Both Randall and Rollins have had a lot of good plays and a few not so good; And Goodson also looked good in limited reps. And still, we gave up all those pass plays. What I saw was some pin-point passing by Bradford and Sanchez that defeated good coverage. I also saw a lack of pass rush, but that in part was because of the quick drops - 3 step or whatever.

I tend to think the DB personnel we have will be highly successful against most opponents. I further think that Capers will scheme up something special when we play Philly for real, and that will be successful too. And if not, aaron Rodgers will just have to outscore them.
