How long was the inside linebacker position ignored, because we had awesome players in AJ Hawk and Brad Jones? Stupidity like that costs you championships. You don't get players like Aaron Rodgers every day. Isn't it the responsibility of the GM to put forth the very best team he can assemble and not go into each season with glaring holes?
The tight end position is weak, and our OT position is sketchy. And I've been praying for a Megatron/Dez Bryant type of talent at WR for a long time, just to make Rodgers' job easier.

We have a smaller window with Rodgers than people want to admit to. Basically 2011 through 2015 were pissed away. How many more will be like that. Like I've said, I've watched this movie before with Favre's career.

You have calculated risks at numerous positions due to the reality of the cap. Agreed that Hawk/Jones were letdowns, the depth at TE doesn't look appealing now, and I'm iffy on DL depth. That said, the vast majority of this roster was 4 minutes of "self shitting" away from the SB, yet I read is that the sky is falling.

There are going to be "glaring holes" on any roster when you're capped. C last year, CB this year were among those holes and as of now, those seem to have at least adequate personnel.

I'm not a Ted Thompson apologist, I just recognize this is a really deep team with the exception of a few positions...the Seahawks and Pats were weak at WR the last two years, it happens. I'd rather comment on specific situations (e.g. I would have liked to see Gresham here) than blanket generalizations about how Ted has floundered an organization that just went 12-4.

We don't have to do every single thing Wolf did. Yes he brought in Jackson, Rison, and Eugene - big success. What did Ware, Talib, and TJ Ward get for the Broncos? An earlier exit from the playoffs.

Again, you have to take some calculated gambles at positions, TE depth is certainly among them. I'm cautiously optimistic that RR and AQ (post suspension) can be decent as a tandem. Maybe Ted and I are wrong, though...I acknowledge that possibility. However, this still comes back to what were the alternatives, e.g. the cost of Jimmy G, or who you give up in your draft for a TE. It's why I'll always say I wish we could have convinced Gresham to come up here since he is low cost, low risk, and isn't at the expense of another draft pick.

This is NOT meant to be a blanket endorsement of Ted Thompson, as there are things about his GMship that I'm not totally pleased with, however: the overriding fact is that the Packers have continued to be at or near the top of the NFL for about a generation now. True, we haven't won enough Super Bowls in that time, but BFD. If the team is playing winning football consistently for a long period of time, I'll take that. There are 32 teams in the league; A lot of them play "boom and bust" - sell out to load up, then sink to the bottom as they rebuild - the Giants come to mind in that. I would MUCH rather have a team that is CONSISTENTLY near the top.

You and every other Packer fan. Settler, that's the word to describe all of you.

In the salary cap era, you can't have the best of everything everywhere, and settling just a bit at TE ain't that bad.

Oh, and just in case you missed it ... settler.

Winning while we have the greatest QB in the NFL - probably ever: First of all, we ARE winning - consistently. Some of us can remember over 20 years between Lombardi and Holmgren when we were not. Secondly, a LOT of teams have had great QBs - not that much below Rodgers and Favre, and also did not win a lot of Super Bowls; Some did not even win consistently in the sense of staying near the top. Elway, Marino, and P. Manning come to mind. In addition, there have been a LOT of QBs who were "great" in terms of their paycheck, but never came through and earned the big money (dontcha wish we had the GMs that paid people like Cutler, Flacco, Stafford, etc.?)

It helps to have a top talent RB on a rookie salary but don't worry, when he becomes a free agent you either dump him and replace him with someone who is just as good but a lot cheaper (I guess this is pretty easy to do) or you simply pay to have a franchise (talent and salary) RB. From what I understand its pretty easy to fill your roster with franchise level talent and franchise level salaries.

I haven't really seen any specific suggestions on how to address the defense player acquisition wise but from what I understand all but a few players suck. I gather that the way to fix this is to cut everyone and fill the positions with franchise (talent and salary) type players.

There you have it. It's really quite simple. A guaranteed way to win every single year. Fill your roster with franchise players at every position. It shouldn't be that difficult to do should it.

So in summary, things could always be better, but they have been pretty damn good for a long time.

Wolf also brought in Sean Jones, Santana Dotson, Bruce Wilkerson, and others. Yes, I wanted Jimmy G. and I said back then that I would've forgone RC18 to get him. We have such a dearth of talent at TE. It's pretty amazing an O like ours has a TE group that bad but, again, we have the QB. Hides a lot of ills.

The sky isn't falling...we have Aaron Rodgers.

The Seahawks were in back to back Bowls...did they rest and say...Hey, we went to two straight SB's we don't need to get better. Other teams would love to be us? NO! Good wasn't good enough for them. Good wasn't enough for the Broncos after losing to the Hawks. The SB hangover is a proven thing for the losing team. The point is to go for it not how it works out. We haven't gone for it and it hasn't worked out for several years, but I always hear garbage about how dangerous it is to go for it. Man, are you serious? Not going for it has PROVEN to not work so why wouldn't you go for it? Your odds are better going for it and failing than they are standing pat and failing.

I wonder how Atlanta Braves fans feel? One WS win. All those loses. I wonder how Bills fans felt? 4 STRAIGHT SB appearances...ZERO WINS, well, I bet their fans were on forums then bragging that other teams were probably jealous? NO! Those fans were CRUSHED they didn't win one much less all four. It's empty. If you can get filled by not winning there is something wrong with you. I'm sure Seahawks fans are saying this offseason...Wow, what a great year last year...the tail end of back to back and one yard short. I bet Bucs fans wish they were us. No! No! No! No they do not. They do not wish they came up one yard short in the SB. You win or you lose...period. There is nothing to envy unless you win it all. Yes, teams envy the fact we won it in 2010...they sure don't envy our continual playoff exits. Do you think there is a fan of a team who drafted in the Top 10 thinking, Man, I wish I was a Packers fan. How much fun that would be to follow them and that embarrassment in Seattle. Biggest embarrassment ever in an NFC Championship game. Man, I wish I was a fan of that team? You guys make things up to justify not being champions. It's bizarre.
