I don't know how many thousands of times I can tell you my opinion before you stop twisting it. Good player = good. Bad player = bad.

I dont care about Rob's article...I'm commenting on what youve said.

Read sschind's post, you can thumb your nose at the cap because you're a fan, not a GM. Some of us choose to understand the reality Ted and 31 other GMs live by. You are governed by a budget that has to influence every decision you make.

I don't want Dez because I don't like the idea of hiring babysitters for my employees I'm paying millions to because they can't act like adults in society...but other elite players, yes, give me as many as feasible. Draft well, and hopefully all picks become elite. I want Randall, Lacy, Elliot, and Pennell to thrive. Why would I oppose affordable excellence?

This is a sophmoric discussion on par with epic debates such as water is wet and the sun is hot. However, it's like watching Miss South Carolina discuss maps...it's painful to watch but I can't turn away.

Not mutually exclusive thing. The cap is there if you have crap players or elite players. Yes, elites cost more but you want as many as you possibly can but not you guys... you guys will say there is a cap and brag about how smart you are and how dumb I am because I'm not aware of what the cap means. I am fully aware of it. I am fully aware of what having an elite player can do...Aaron Rodgers has made us competitors for the show due to his greatness. You guys are probably worried he eats too much cap. I ain't. Thrilled he's our QB. Would take a few more like him on D right now.

Remember when Ditka traded the entire draft for Ricky Williams? How'd that work out?

Uffda still doesn't get the point. Everyone here wants every Packer player to be as good as possible, if that "good" is "elite", even better. If they play at elite level for the Packers without elite money, that's the best thing that can happen. But contracts expire and elite players want elite money and that's where the cap comes into account. Assuming you can consider the top 5 at every position as elite, it's easy to calculate your salary based on Franchise Tag numbers.

So if you take 1 elite player at each position, 1 QB, 1 RB, 1 WR, 1 TE, 1 OL, 1 DT, 1 DE, 1 CB, and 1 S, together they will cost you $125.5 million for 9 players. That leaves you with around $20 million for the rest of the 44 roster spots. And now Uffda, please tell me that a team like that with absolutely no depth will be a competitor 😲

That's why everyone loves as much elite players on the roster as long as they don't play for elite money. If they're asking for elite money, you have to make a decision. Period.

Here's all I'm getting at...

1) You want/need all of your draft picks to be studs because they're cheap - duh
2) You need an abundance of depth - duh
3) You can probably only afford 2-3 maxed contracts for their position. The Packers have two with CM3 at LB, and AR

These 3 points are "water is wet" arguments.

The one thing where maybe we disagree on, is knowing you can probably only afford 2-3 maxed out FA players (not talking draft picks, I'm saying FAs/retaining your own after their rookie contract) I would favor spending the top end $ on top talent at QB, pass rush, and arguably one of your tackles or CBs before I'd side with paying it to a WR. That doesn't mean I don't want a top end WR, it doesn't mean that if we drafted Megatron I wouldn't strongly consider resigning him, just that ideally, in most circumstances I'd favor diverting that $ to the other positions.

I want Dez Bryant to play for us at Vet minimum. Problem is paying $12M for a WR does not really gain us any more wins in my opinion over what we have now. Why do we keep on having these threads about offensive players and positions, when offense is not our problem?

Look at the title of the thread. Read the article.

It's pure unadulterated brainwashing...the old Greg Jennings would smile.

Our "distinct winning" formula for WR success is NOT drafting elite players with talent like Dez Bryant????????????? Who in their right mind would celebrate that? Who?

So, the aim of our org is to shoot for less than top shelf players so they don't cost too much? That is our distinct and winning formula? What have we won? 1 SB? 10 years and one appearance with our "distinct and winning formula at WR"????

I have said and will continue saying for all time that that article was one of the dumbest things I've ever read...ever. Nerd seemed to love it. It's foolish idiotic crap and should be called as such not argued and debated but it is.

A) Why should the Packers have drafted Dez Bryant with an amazing group of WRs already on the roster and desparate needs on other positions? I know BPA is always a good thing, but not at that time.
B) What did we do with Dez Bryant without a Franchise RT in Bulaga and Aaron Rodgers getting hurt because he's not protected?
C) What does it help to have an elite WR and a few good ones if all the other positions are terrible?

and finally

D) Is Dez Bryant really that elite? He was the guy that sucked to catch that important ball and the Packers went to the NFC CCG. Remember?

Please stop trolling, it's getting really annoying. 😠

Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
