John Kuhn has spent eight of his nine seasons in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers, and signed a one-year contract to remain with the Packers in 2015. Despite having only a limited role with the team, Kuhn is definitely a fan favorite and one of the most recognizable players on Green Bay’s roster.

The asset that John Kuhn provides is excellent pass protection. That's why he's lasted as long as he has combined with solid Special Teams play. Elite QB'd teams hold higher priority on their RB stable to pass protect more than shake and bake for 4 yards per carry.

Until a TE or another FB can provide the same value that John Kuhn does, he will have a roster spot, unless he prices himself out of the league.

Regarding roster spots, it's extremely unlikely the Packers would go with no fullback on the roster, so Kuhn is not wasting a roster spot. The question would be, is he preventing some talented young fullback from sticking to the roster? I predict that Ripkowski, unless he shows he doesn't deserve it, gets "stashed" for one year - practice squad maybe, or injured reserve if that's what it takes. Then, when he is ready, Life without Kuhn starts in 2016.

If Kuhn can outperform Ripkowski and provide a versatile role, great, I have nothing against Kuhn. He is the epitome of "Packer People" at a time when the team has taken a hit in that department. I'm just not sure his athleticism is providing much of an upgrade over what a number of others could provide.
