Ted just made the odds of hitting on his 1st round pick less by picking a project. Now, not only do we have to see if this kid can transition to the NFL level, period...he has the extra task/burden of having to translate to the NFL at a different position. That's just another hurdle he has to overcome to be a productive member of the Packers. It is hard enough performing as a Ted Thompson defensive pick without the burden of having to switch positions.
For years, the Packers fan base moaned and groaned over the musical chairs and multiple position thinking of our OL. Finally, we settle on 5 guys and stop moving them all over the place and we have one of our better lines in memory. Why we want to go into Round 1 of the NFL draft with the mentality of taking a project to position switch is puzzling.
Bigbyfan...you got me smilin'...yup, a big risk. Maybe, he'll take a DE in R2 and try converting him to a LB like they did with Neal and Peppers. Ted Thompson always wants to be the smartest guy in the room. Just freaking draft a player who plays a position up high. Go have your fun time late in the draft and stop messing around where the blue chip players lurk.
It's only one pick but I have a sinking feeling that if he takes a defensive player in R2 this will go down as one of his worst drafts in Green Bay and that's saying something.
