So if he drafts Shields in the 7th rather than recruiting him as a FA, he is better at drafting?? Shields would get a good grade as a late draft pick, no?

I disagree (🤣. ) If he can save a draft pick and still get the guy he wants, that is better. (According to me.)

Uffda, that reminds me, when are you going to post your analysis of all of TT's drafts? The analysis that represents so much more thought and work than any of us have put into assessing Ted.

I find it interesting our org would be praised letting Shields go undrafted. That means the last pick in our draft was rated higher than Sam. CJ Wilson was pick 230 that year, our final selection, so they had him rated higher than Sam, and you're going to tell me our org KNEW that Sam would go undrafted with 25 picks remaining in the 7th round. IMPOSSIBLE. There is no way in the world, short of a time machine or some kind of strange clairvoyancy that Ted Thompson knew Sam wouldn't get drafted. You said he was very confident, and he may have been, but I doubt it...Sam was in a group of guys they didn't want to draft but wanted to bring in for a looksee if he didn't get drafted. I doubt back then had Sam gotten taken in the 7th that Ted Thompson would've flipped out. Sam was like all the others in that pool just a kid with some unique skill they wanted to kick the tires on. You make it sound like Ted Thompson knew he was sitting on a diamond in Sam and was so smart not to take him in the 7th because he's smarter than the other 31 GM's and that's simply not even close to the case.

Who would you rather have Sam or CJ? Our genius drafter chose CJ over Sam. Wrong move, obviously. The things said here are beyond reason oftentimes. Again, Ted Thompson did NOT know that Sam Shields wouldn't get taken in the last 25 picks of the 7th round. What he did and does is just bring in as many guys who he likes that go undrafted as possible. Had Sam been drafted in Round 7, he would've just tried scooping up volume of what was left hoping someone would stand out. That's what Sam did. To not be drafted is a slap. If the Packers were really THAT high on Sam Shields they were FOOLS to risk not taking him in the 7th. Obviously, they weren't that high on him and didn't and were surprised like we all were what a player he turned into.

I'm not even sure Ted Thompson is all that great at finding UDFA's... what our org is good at is giving them opportunities they are likely not going to get other places.

Not only did he do so, but he proved himself to be "the man," for the next decade, barring injury. Same thing happened with Bahtiari a couple years ago.

Ted's drafts are SO deep that when this team continues to lose starters, we STILL have the depth for the next guy to step up and get it done. Remember when Barclay got his first start? Everyone thought the season was over. Guess what. Dude can play.

Ted drafted both Lacy AND Franklin. That's fucking unreal. But as usual, he only gets to keep ONE of them. And yet, we were still good enough to win it all last year.

So you can sit there and cry like a bitch that you're so much smarter than everyone and how we're all just picking on you, but in reality, you're just not very bright, and you can't admit you don't know wtf you are talking about.

I claim it was a calculated risk JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER draft decision. Guessing correctly that Shields would not be drafted by another team, so he could use that pick on someone else. No, Wilson didn't work out. But we would never know that without bringing him in. If the choice was just trying out Shields or trying out Shields and Wilson, he made the right call.

Similarly, now I understand this thread: Ted Thompson is a bad drafter ‘cause he’s a bad clairvoyant!

See, good drafting is not clairvoyance; it’s building a precision draft board w/ skilled scouts; discipline to it; and understanding other teams’ tendencies and methods they use to assemble their boards. One day the story will come out as to why CM3 was passed up at 9 and suddenly Ted Thompson had to “overpay” to get him at 26. SPOILER ALERT: it’s not clairvoyance and Ted Thompson did not use his time machine 'cause he feared Goddell would take one of his valued pics...LOL

If you know what you're doing clairvoyance is not required for one to KNOW with a heightened degree of certainty that, EG, Aaron Rodgers will be a top 5 QB in 2015. Ted Thompson Knew [to a heightened degree of certainty] that Shields would not be drafted and that CM3 was going to be taken SOON. Both times TT’s skilled reading of all facts was correct.

Shields got a $7.500 SB. It is an unequivocal absolutely FALSE misrepresentation of the TRUTH that Shields came in for a “looksee” or that Ted Thompson just “wanted to kick the tires on” him. Shields was pursued before, during and after the draft.

You fit in well, here. We had a poster saying that Ted Thompson was brilliant because he calculated Sam wouldn't get drafted. There was no way he could've known that...he doesn't even know if his 1st rounders will pan out because most of them don't but somehow he was going to be right on Sam not being drafted and was thinking that in Round 7...Oh, boy...just a few more hours until I can sign Sam who'll be a difference maker for me...no reason to draft him, though. No, I'll let him go to the UDFA pool if he gets there at all, and when he does then I'll overpay because what kid from Da U wants to come to Green Bay when he has other offers? Yes, TT's plan when contrived in the mind of a homer surely reflects well upon him...a little reality paints quite a different picture, but I'm the schizo. Sure.

Perhaps, JF had a nice game because of Cincy loading up so much on the pass that they were willing to concede yards on the ground in a shootout? Nope...can't be it...Franklin was a bonafide HOF RB because he had ONE nice game in the NFL that hasn't even been scrutinized by you or anyone else here.

If there is anything "unreal" it is your overblown thoughts on Packers players. Not a single draftee last year was a home run...not even close. Yet, you whipped out FOUR A grades for the likes of Ha Ha, Richard Rodgers and Davante Adams? Linsley was a surprise and played well but is he a Pouncey? The level of expectation was lowered due to having EDS there. Was Linsley all world....just an A center? For where he was drafted, he was the best pick of the entire draft, at this point. A, though? Home run? Nerd, look at yourself... He's a Packer...he's GREAT. Try to think of him being drafted by some other team and give your opinion on what you really think as your Green and Gold Fever is affecting your judgement. Johnathan THE MAYOR Franklin is stone cold proof of that.
